Well Mike your right I was use a 2D toolpath to a 3D toolpath. I ended up using wirefram, surface and cure 5-axis to cut the ribtops like you said. It would be nice to have more fuctionality in contour when selecting (contour type)3D . If you could drive a contour by selecting a curve ( regardless of the plane that is lays on) and a surface to drive up a ribtop At a 0,0,1 toolaxis and to corner stays tangent to the surface that would be swell. I know curve 5-axis is very close. Apt you can say tool on a curve part surface ( any surface ) and drive up that surface and maintain tangency. I don't know anything older the APT and NCL. " Cave Painting W/ endless functionality just no modeling or anything else." All in All it would be nice to have a option to select contour 3D and have a window for surface to pop up to select a surface.

I just got back in to MC from a little break and trying to remember the do's and don'ts of the software. After a little thought I do remember spending time in version 6 backplotting and saving geo to get the right comp on a toolpath....I would think that MC would be able to look at the corner rad by now.... In V5 I can drive an swarfed edge with a chamfer tool a face and a curve and still maintain tangency....just for a little comparison
PS. Rick you must work with Jim Gardner and Collin G.
Thanks Guys!
Ok, so I guess this might be in the same arena....Can I use a bullnose w/ contour 3D selected and tool tip? After running my part through Vericut all my ribtops were undercut? Nice! Doesn't look as if it sees the corner rad? I must be doing something wong....
R&DCNC-
Thanks for your two cents. For some reason I haven't haven't had the same issue in the last couple of days.I am wondering if it my internet connection. I use a PC card to connect to my VPN and the area I "was" in would dissconnect me from my NET hasp. It usally just says it disconnected, then give me an opportunity to save and that's it. I did have my opps turn dirty when this happenend yesterday.I really like this since the "other" software ( W/ sever Lisence that does not allow me to save.
I should have specified that when in the view manager I press the = to set my WCS T-plane and C-plane to the same origin. This works most of the time but the other 10 percent of the time my operations turn dirty? I just assumed it was a bug but would like to know if anyone else has the same issue or if there is a sequence of events to make this happen? I end up losing some work every time this happens....
Thank You,
Jamey
After changing my construction plane all my operations are dirty. This is an intermittent problem that happend 1/2 dozen times in the last few weeks. Is this a known problem in X4? Is there something I am doing wrong to create this issue? I close down and restart and everything is good. I seached for a topic simular but didn't find one...
Tony35-
That is what I was doing and the operation would end up in the wrong location. I know i have done it in another session. Maybe it is only an issue in this session?.....Something seems a little buggy about it?
Thanks,
Jamey
I resolved my own issue. Right click on operation drag and the copy after or before. So you would think that you would be able to right click Copy and then Paste on the insert arrow?
Thanks K turk....
I know every system has it's ups and downs and I don't knock one or the other, but i spend half my day driving toolpaths w/ mastercam and the other half w/ Unigraphic and the weekends Catia V5. I just generated a toolpath that stitches out the corner radii on 3 closed angles in Unigraphics and it takes a second. I bet it would take at least a couple of minutes in Mastercam. Why can one system generate so much quicker?
My E-mail is [email protected]
I work in the Bomac building in Everett during
the day and In Tacoma at night. I believe you are
right down the street from me....Hit me up
Well, I have come to the conclusion that it is hardware related. While generating a toolpath on another machine w/ the same specs the toolpath generates 5 times faster? Any ideas?
Hello everyone-
It's been a little while since I have used Mastercam, but been using it for the last 12
years off and on.....
I have a part that has a lot of closed and open
angles w/ thin walls. The material is Al so I waterline the walls down using Swarf and some of the generating times exceed 15 min for one operation. Does this sound right? If so is there
any tricks to speed up generating times other then going to the local bar and having a cold one
while 4 operations generate?
My hardware is intel quad q9550 @ 2.83 GHz W/ 3 gigs of Ram W/ Nvidia GeForce GTS 250
Hey slick were are you at these days? Don't have your number or your e-mail. Mine is [email protected] shoot me an e-mail when you get a chance. Cheers! Jamey
Hey Collin-
Boeing Huh!..........I Have Been Working For A Composites Company For The Last Nine Months Doing Lots Of Circle Milling. For Nine Months I Wished They Had A Fuction Like You Mentioned. Like You, I Have Be Creating A Circle And Driving It W/ Curve 5-Axis. They Decided To Move On To Catia V5 Which Does Have That Option. They Are Still Using Mastercam, But The Design In Mastercam Is A Little Weak For What They Do.
Ps My Next Contract Is Down South (Unigraphics )Near Lake Tapps. Give Me A Call When You Want To Go Out On The Tige (Boat)
That's Funny.............I Tried It Didn't Work........Tried Again.......Didn't Work.........One More Time.......WORKED.......Nothing Different Between Each Attempt.........Gremlins?
Is anyone experiencing issues with rotating there axis. I rotate it about the Z-axis and it saves, when i try to select the MCS it defaults back to my previous MCS?
