  1. james.. what is up with this: quote: USC player target of sexual assault investigation taking after the beloved florida schools theory of what you can do when you are the national champs? not exactly the kind of press ole pete's looking for a week before the season starts.
  2. thanks again everyone. i wrote down the links bullines suggested so i can give them to her. as soon as she gets her internet back online i'll probably go visit her(and her female college roomate who also utilizes the laptop ) and help get this stuff downloaded. thanks again !! she was very happy last night when she came over to pick it up (didn't expect it back this fast).
  3. SUCCESS!!!!!!!! thanks to everyone who helped out on this but especially to bullines and winnie! you guys are called the best for a reason. too bad we are all so far from each other i'd love to be able to thank you in person!!!!
  4. i think i've got it! (cross your fingers). it looks like ME is trying to install.
  5. it is complete. now i'm trying to find the cd drive and every letter i type comes back with : invalid drive specification
  6. that seems to be working. it warned me that everything will be removed and made sure i want to do this (at this point, i wasn't sure )
  7. guess what? i inserted the second disk, typed it exactly like you show it and i get an error stating: INCORRECT MS-DOS VERSION. any ideas?
  8. i'm working on making the 2nd boot disk right now. stay tuned for further updates.....
  9. ok ok. i figured out why the boot floppy's weren't working. i didn't realize i needed to run the .exe file first and then use the disk. now it boots to a command prompt A:> but when i type in FORMAT C: it says bad command or filename. any ideas?
  10. yes the floppy drive works. i used it to back up all her files. by booting up do you mean putting it in the drive and then powering up the computer? if yes, then no. i've been unable to boot with the floppy. i've never been given the option with the A:> prompt. how do i get it? is there any other way?
  11. bullines..is there any other way to format the hard drive? i can't get to the prompt from the disk. can i do it from a command prompt by pulling up the dos window?
  12. it has reinstalled ME successfully but this did not solve my problem. i now need to try formating the drive before reinstalling ME i guess.
  13. i'm still getting the trouble with updating the config files as stated in the original post. however, i've been able to get further into the reinstall and everytime it restarts it tries to update again and gets the same problem. it seems to be continuing with the reinstall but i'm not sure what effect not being able to update the config files will have. anyone have any ideas.
  14. somehow, i was able to get the pc to give me the option of booting from cd. so i put the ME cd in and am now (hopefully) reinstalling ME again.
  15. i've tried the other links from bullines and even the 98 one give me the NTLDR is missing message. now what do i do?
  16. amazing...talk to you guys long enough and some of your genious rubs off on me. while waiting for your reply, i downloaded the original again on a newly formatted floppy and now i get a different error: NTLDR is missing, press any key to restart. pressing any key just brings this up again. i will also try getting the boot from the other links as well.
  17. yes. it tries to read from the floppy.
  18. i've disabled all the other devices so only the removeable is active and still get the invalid system disk error.
  19. I tried moving the removeable devices (which includes the floppy drive) to the top of the list and it still gives me the non-system disk error.
  20. yes i can get into setup hitting F2. when i get to the boot page, its shows (in this order): removeable devices legacy floppy drives hard drive IBM-DJSA-210-(PM) Bootable Add-in cards cd-rom drive intel boot agent version 3.0.03 i tried rearranging them but to no avail.
  21. bullines... Its a Dell Inspiron I2500 model no. pp02L. brent... this was already discussed in great detail in a previous post so i'll give you the summary. basically it's my cousins Laptop and she is a college student with no money. so even the $100 to get the upgrade to XP is a lot. Mayday... i wasn't able to format the drive because i couldn't get the boot floppy to work.
