  1. quote: I think we should just profile all males between the ages of 17 and 40. since you mentioned the manson family, we should include females in this too!
  2. don't forget the conspiracy theory that the refs are against LA!!! c'mon, its hard to get the whistle when your settling for jump shots. and since when is lowering your shoulder and plowing thru the defender not an offensive foul? i guess when you are shack you can do whatever you want! GO PISTONS!!!!!!
  3. from what i've gathered from the "experts" at Haas, you cannot turn off thru coolant mid-cycle and turn it back on. you would have to reset the machine and then restart it. for us, this is difficult because we would have to write our programs completely different than we do now and that would be too much confusion for the setup people (and a lot of work for me editing programs). anytime you restart the machine, there are certain codes that have to be "read" by the control and it would be too difficult to predict where you might have to restart at.
  4. james... you are a very intellegent person (and not just because i agree with you!! )
  5. +1 to corey!! As much as i respect him, with what he was going thru this was probably long overdue. may he rest in peace forever and ever!!! (thankfully he doesn't have any kids trying to freeze him like another legend who died not too long ago)
  6. great! nice job ruining my younger sons birthday. now i have to concentrate all my time to this instead of my sons birthday. i was really hoping it wouldn't start until after his birthday!
  7. yeah how do you perform a BIOS update? and while we are at it, what is a BIOS update? and what does it do? also, what is a memory leak? i think i understand but want to make sure.
  8. Hey!! what are you trying to say?
  9. James... you hit it on the head for me personally on both accounts. I undoubtedly(?) feel inferior as far as my abilities when comparing to the rest of the forum members. i don't even begin to scratch the surface of using Mastercam to its full capabilities. I would love to see it in full use to see how close i am but unfortuneatly i live in an area where apparently there aren't many Mastercam users in this forum . I also would have a hard time relocating out of the general area, let alone the state without losing a wife and 2 kids (my wife is really close to her family, and i'm kind of partial to mine as well ). The bottom line is deciding to uproot your family and take a chance in another part of the country is probably one of the toughest (if not toughest) decisions one will make in their lifetime. like someone said earlier, i resume from here is probably equal to 10 from elsewhere. i guess my point is this: don't stop posting job openings on here. i believe that it certainly doesn't hurt, and you never know when you might find the next great Mastercam programmer. i for one will continue to read them all and look for a situation that fits my situation.
  10. be careful what you wish for! i've found having a cmm only adds to the confusion. Good alignments are a pain in the you know what. verifying these alignments are even worse.
  11. quote: $2.35/$2.45/$2.55 as of today heck, i thought you cali boys would be paying closer to $3.00 since i'm paying $2.16-$2.20 for regular unleaded here in michigan!
  12. mine doesn't always stop when you release one of the buttons. that can be really annoying!
  13. Jay... this morning i timed it out and it was around 1 1/2 minutes to shade everything after turning all levels on. Can't explain why it was quicker than before but it still seems to be too long. this file is typical of the size files i create but i do have some files that are quite a bit larger (say 2 - 2 1/2 times) and they take forever to shade. needless to say, this gets very annoying having to wait for it to finish and then i can't even do any graphical rotations without it being "choppy" when it moves.
  14. thanks for the tests. it looks like i've got something set wrong on my video card? keep the comments coming! thanks, josh
  15. I've uploaded a file to the FTP site called josh.mc8. This file is typical of the problems i have when trying to shade the surfaces on files of this size (app. 11 mb) with my system. When you open the file, the first thing you will have to do is turn on all levels except the one labeled "do not use". then try shading it and see how long it takes for this to happen. with my system, it takes quite a few minutes (haven't timed it yet but am guessing somewhere around 5 minutes). I'm wondering if this is typical for a file of this size or if something is wrong with my graphics card settings. I'm using a NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti4800 graphics card. I've tried changing just about every setting and still get the same results (or worse). I'm using windows 2000 on a pentium 3 system with as much RAM as i can put on the board. can someone please try this out and let me know what you think? I would appreciate it very much! if i forgot any information, slap upside the head and let me know
  16. dang rekd.... beat me to it. i agree with Caputo, sacrificing safety to save a few bucks doesn't make sense to me.
  17. the problem has already been stated: losing 4 billion one day won't bother them when they know it will be recouped over the following couple of days when people need to gas up. the other problem is how do you get every single person in the US to not buy gas on a given day? it is impossible to do. besides all this does is hurt the local station you are stopping at. it won't affect the big conglomerates that control the pricing. that is the problem - people don't realize that the guy who owns the store isn't controlling prices. for example if you own a speedway gas station, you still have to abide by corporate rules - so if they call you up and say put your fuel at 2.50 per gallon, you have no choice. and if you want to go out on your own and try competing against them by keeping your prices down, they will run you out of business. believe me, i've spent many hours researching this for a paper i did in an economics class last fall.
  18. I couldn't imagine commuting like that to work - it's bad enough i work 7 minutes away from work . hopefully, i'll be able to find something closer, otherwise i'll have to think about buying a motorhome and living in the parking lot during the week. sorry guys, had to rub it in.
  19. we haven't had any problems to date with the two we got in a couple of months ago but i'm going to print this off and hand it to the maintenance guy for future reference! thanks Lars for asking the question here and thanks to all who helped!
  20. i'm not sure what is done now. i hope they have some sort of compensation type deal for the families of soldiers lost. i'm sure someone out there reading this has a better answer.
  21. the best tribute to tilman that i've seen so far goes something like this (with a little added by me): every player in the NFL should have the initials of a fallen soldier on his helmet/uniform for the entire season. they can put a bio of the soldier he represents in every gameday program for all 16 games he plays in - nothing super big, just a little background on the soldier. these bio's could also be included on the teams websites. I think this would be more along the lines of how pat tillman would want to be remembered. with this, each player would donate a small percentage of their salary for that year to a fund to help put children of fallen soldiers thru college.
  22. Don't jump to conclusions. we've seen what can be done to photos thanks to today's technology. i have a hard time believing these photo's haven't been fabricated somewhat.
  23. Boy, i sure am glad i'm not the only one. in fact i think i'm about to get into this right now ( i also program the CMM's here and am having trouble getting it to tell me that a part they KNOW is good to come out as such). i think they are failing to relay all the information they know about the print vs reality!
  24. thanks guys... Am I the only one who has to struggle with customers about what's there and what they intended?
  25. Does anyone know of a good book that clearly defines what geometric dimension and tolerancing bars signify? We have continual struggles with customers as to what the prints are looking for based on the geometric tolerancing. thanks in advance!
