  13. Well thanks anyway. I worked with it and it looks like you can not create a grooving tool with two different size radius in the corners. Regards, John
  14. Is it possible to create a cutom grooving lathe tool .120 wide, that has a .049R on one corner and a .118R on the other? Thanks, John
  15. Club '53 for me. I was at the IMTS in 2000, but my wife made plans for me, so I will not be going this year. It is a great show! Maybe 2008 John
  16. Phil, The Cincinnati machines are set-up with things that they thought would make the machines more user friendly. Which really baffled me when I first started programming them. Coming from a background of Fanuc's it did not make sense. There is a default page in which you can change the value of the R plane, it is called "Cycle parameters" you have to look at the programming book to determine which one is the one you want, then you can adjust the "R" to zero if you want to. This would reset my 850SX to have a R value of zero. G10=[CYP,39,V]V0.0 The default setting is .100 Cincinnati recommends that if you change them, to add this at the end of the program to reset all back to the machine default G80 J1 Best Regards, John
  17. Hi Everyone, We have an opening for a programmer/Engineer. Duties would be producing programs for Lathes (Okuma, Kitako, Daewoo, Nighthawk, Miyano) & Mills (Makino, Maxim, Chiron, Saeilo, Sabre, Stama, Enshu, Cincron). As well as working with the customer to put together PPAP's. Mastercam experience preferred! If interested please contact Modern Industries, Inc. Human Resource Department, please call (814) 455-8061 or email us at [email protected]. Or email my boss at [email protected] Best Regards, John
  18. For cutter comp should I use an 'O' instead of the 'D'? For instance is this the right coding to comp on tool 1: G41O1X-1.? This how the cutter comp should look in your program. :11G0G90T17M6 G00G90X1.3885Y2.0203Z5.S5000M13 G42X1.400Y2.1203 Z1. G01Z.4F50. X1.3658Y1.9873F30. On the tool data page where the offset is stored there is a column to adjust the size difference in your tool. Best Regards, John
  19. Tony (CNC Guy) You are right about the 2100 Acramatic controller, but the 850SX is a horse of a different color. The 950's and 2100's both can use fixture offsets, but the 850SX, "H" is only used to make minor adjustments to gang fixtures. Regards, John
  20. The best way to program more than one fixture is have each zero location of the fixtures with it's own zero location. In your program first use G99 to cancel the co-ordinate then use something like this each time to re-set a new location G92 X5.675 Y-5.654 ( this number is from the reference point) then cancel (G99) and re-establish a new zero for each fixture. Quoting for the programing manual " Fixture offset values greater than 1mm (.05") may be used with extreme caution. Large offset values will cause large axis motions which adds to the possibility of a collision between the cutting tool and workpiece." As far as Cutter comp value, it goes in the tool data offset page as diameter devation. There is not a "D" used in the program for it. Best of luck! John
  21. Hi Phil, We have 4 Sabre 750 with 850SX Acramatic controls. 1. How to use Fixture Offsets. Do I type in the values in X and Y and use an H value? The other machinist just sets up part zeros with G92, the ancient pre-industrial revolution method. The way the machine works is you set a x&y zero using G92. H values can be used, but they are dangerous. Because they are used to make up the slight difference in multiple fixture locations. Using an H causes the controller to reset to a new position, you have to go back to the original location each time a new H is used or it will crash. 2. Better way to set Tool lengths than the typical ancient method? Now we have to first set a reference value (called the "tool tram surface")from the spindle bottom and measure the tool lenths (which is the value from the tip of the tool to the spindle bottom refernece) and then Zero out part Z with a G92. Yuk! Nope, that is the only way I know how to do it. Best Regards, John
  22. I am doing an elliptical bore, with a boring bar. I was off one day and everyone here started to panic because the backup programmer did not have a clue how to do it. So my boss wanted me to find a book that explained it. Thanks, John
  23. Hi Guys, Yes, we already have the Lathe Book that is found at the top of the page. I was hoping for something a little more advanced. I am doing a lot of ellipse turning work for a new Customer and it would be nice if a book included that in their training. Thanks for your help! John
  24. Hi Everyone, My boss wanted me to ask if anyone could recommend a good Lathe training manual, something that goes beyond the beginner stuff. Thanks for your help! John Modern Ind. Erie, Pa.
  25. Never mind, I forgot to do a search until after my finger hit send. I found what I was looking for there! Thanks, John
