  1. You can do this In Mcam 9 Analyze- Surface - Curvature - Surfaces- then window the hole lot and press "DONE" then press "Doit" easy. Why the hell they haven't got this GREAT feature in Mcam X is beyond me. I want it back please.
  2. somtimes I have to reset my origin in stock setup again after picking the corners of the block to get it to read the correct origin as per WCS.
  3. Thanks bellyup I see the others are having the same problem and yes somtimes my sim disconnects aswell.
  4. Hi, I,ve found on several occasions when I have made a program where all the toolpaths work well and then after regenerating, I get dirty toolpaths that give me an error massage ( spiral cutting can not be done in Entry )- if I close and restart Mcam then open the same program I can then regenerate with no problems. Mastercam is misreading my hasp level ( Level 2) and setting it to entry level while I,m working. Has anyone had similar problems like this, or odd dirty toolpaths for no reason. I have a white HASP4 type. Any Ideas? Jim.
  5. Jim ..

    Video card

I use ATI Fire GL T2 card which is Open GL rated, and designed for cad work, and Mastercam has said this model does not suffer from the problems the normal ATI cards have, this works great on Ver 9.0 and Ver X.
  6. You can C-Hook Drill points then simple window points, if you have many holes to do.
  7. I,m a toolmaker I design press tools from simple to 18 stage progresion tools for electrionic parts, design the parts if required, programme the VMC, and oversee the assemble of the tools. I give my drawings to the machinst to make.
  8. I use a HP NW8000 Mobile workstation it comes with a ATI Fire GL card designed for cad use. 1Gig ram, wxga screen, plus has a serial port.
  9. Thanks for the info, that works well but you would think that would update the number in your file setting as well, that needs to be done manully.
  10. It works if I put the number in before I make my toolpaths then post. I hadn't noticed that before.
  11. Thanks David, I just can't find a setting which would stop the program number from being posted.
  12. My program numbers not being transferred to my post after this MR1 installation, has any one else noticed this.
  13. I've been using a Fire GL T2 card for 2.5 years and has never given me any problems in Mcam X or Ver 9.
  14. I was looking forward to having more than one window open so I can work on similar jobs at the same time by cutting and pasting my tool paths and features to each window, this is how all my cad software works, all my other windows software works this way, I hate having to close and open files all the time.I was really disapointed about this basic Windows feature not being there.Thats what I thought I was buying.
  15. These are great on lighter built machines, if you use there recommed feeds which seems slighly slow, but you can have big cutts with no chatter, and they last and last. On D2 a 12mm cutter should be 56-68 m/min with 0.025 to 0.05mm/tooth.
  16. Go to settings then converters in the solids import box select trimmed surface. This will convert all imported solids as surfaces, you can then move rotate or whatever.
  17. Using X on a high screen resolution (1200 x 1600)or more, is not as goog as Ver 9 the icons are not clear or coloured well to be quickly readable, you need to leave your mouse on them till their descripter appears. You can inlarge the buttons but then your screen gets even smaller. The window size in ver 9 was great.
  18. Thanks Steve, I was having the same problem as Bruce today, checking some rads on a surface I don't like the preselection system, every time you move your mouse across the screen all the surfaces are being highlighted, annoying.Well I think so anyway
  19. Can MCx Analyze the max and min surface rad's of the entire model like in Ver 9.1 that was great for checking tool Diameters before machining. Jim.
  20. Thad thanks for your time and comments, I am able to rotate and Xform translate any of the many die blocks I get. But after learning and using the WCS system I never had to do that since, (for 2 years now) it's just this Ruled toolpath is not using the new orgin position only the original system origin like you pointed out. Like I mentioned all other surface and 2d toolpaths behave normally. Its odd this dos'nt Regards Jim.
  21. Hi Thad I did your test and understand your point, and I think your correct that the systems 0,0,0 has something with why my ruled toolpath is going home in the wrong direction. But on page 127 "Moving the coordinate System to the Part"in McamX getting started guide it states you locate the origin at a Suiable point ( that can be any where on your job )then align the Tplane and Cplane to it. This then gives you the Blue line origin (Tplane,Cplane)this is how you also locate multiple G50s ( serveral home positions)but the system has only 1 system origin (the brown line which sould not be confussed with tooling home position Bule line. All the other tools paths work correctly it seems to be only this Ruled toolpath so far acting funny. Or is just me
  22. My simple test is call RULED TOOLPATH TEST JIM.MCX in the MCX folder on the FTP site, I would be interested If someone from cnc software could check this.
  23. Thad I see what your talking about, with the blue line, but when you use the WCS and pick a new origin say the corner of the job your machining, your tool plane and construction plane are now move to that point hence the blue line, the systems home postion always remains at 0,0,0 this never changes hence the brown line. This is the way you use the WCS system with out having to rotate or XForm Translate your Job to the systems home origin position. I've been doing it this way for the last 2 years it normally works perfectly.
  24. Thad I did a new test and called it "Ruled toolpath test Jim" making sure no origins are alter or moved and the results are the same the ruled toolpaths are going home in the minus direction and the standard pocket toolpaths are going home in positive ( correct ) direction. I think this is a BUG Can any one else get this after changing your WCS to another view??
  25. No I didn't know I had changed my origin on my rads, like you I stick with the original origin once I have set the WCS to side I want as top. I'll try from the begining, Thanks for your help.
