  1. What? You got it and I didn't R.O.Y.? Hehe. I think we probably have the same reseller. But I guess its ok to not have it yet, since you dont have codes to use it. Oh well soon enough it will arrive.
  2. Oh also, I'm kind of upset that I'm going to have to upgrade my 386sx-16 with 640k ram and 20mb hard drive for this. There goes my money out the window. And to think, the Sears salesman told me it was top of the line. Why isn't it still top of the line???
  3. quote: Also how often do machinists make drawing changes? Really the job is to make it to print( the CAD ). So it is nice to have drawing functionality but not necessary for the Programmer. Well I don't know about you or anyone else but most of the time I get a paper drawing to make a part. Everyone else in the forum might have cad files provided to them with everything seperated out into the levels and any extra geometry needed for toolpathing, but I don't. Don't have such a negative view on moving away from our non-windows based program. As it is right now, there is no customization in mastercam. How about no undo in mastercam? I don't know how many times I've made a change and ruined my file. Sure I could save my file after every small change to prevent this. I'm sure it won't be as hard to learn as you are hoping for. If its too hard for you, then stick with version 7 or 8 or whatever you are most comfortable with. I don't believe Mastercam X works with Windows 3.11 for workgroups, so you may have to think about upgrading that too.
  4. Why does it include a version 9.1 sp2 cd? It doesnt build on top of 9 does it?
  5. The trim divide function looks alot faster and easier in X. less clicks like weve been hearing.
  6. yeah, its awesome. Theres a record button on the side. You just hit record, hit the button you want to record on, and then use the keystrokes in mastercam, when you are done, hit record again and the button is now set to whatever you did. Its got pan motion by moving the direction you want to go and a zoom button. I bought mine for $20 dollars at a computer store. Would a spaceball even be beneficial in mastercam?
  7. Does anyone know (beta testers, cnc software reps) if you can still have keyboard shortcuts for any functions in mastercam? I guess I have to see the new interface, but lets say I want to transform all entities on the screen. We all know the process in 9.1. Xform, Translate, All, Entities, Between Points, Origin, (new point) Done. There are of course polar and rectangular, etc... I have a device (Microsoft Sidewinder Strategic Commander)set up to automate all of these functions by using the underlined letter of the menu item in sequence.
  8. Well Todd, make sure you ship my copy of X out first
  9. There was a post a week ago that said someones retailer said they should be getting the actual release copy on the 15th of July. We should expect it sometime after the 18th. Now its mid- August. Who knows? We were told I believe that X would be coming out not too long after we got our seat of 9.0. Its fine to announce it ahead of time, but it would have stopped a whole lot of complaining if we had just been given a closer estimate. Although not as many people may have bought maintenance, which may have been the whole goal to begin with. Well, I'm excited about it coming out, but I just don't see it coming out this year. We were told in November that it wasn't for sure but they thought it may be coming out in mid Feb. 2003 So many dates. Its almost time. Time for more rumors? Time for a release? Only time will tell. Almost.
  10. What if Mastercam X was the name of the contractor coming to work on your house? Oh wait, maybe it is. About the same amount of time.
  11. Looking for a good cutter for facing/cutting of stainless. Need to take a .75" x 3" bar 4.5 inches long down to .67" x 2.625. How well do these cutters work. What kind of life can i get out of the inserts. Our machine doesn't have compressed air.
  12. How does this stuff machine. I was thinking about trying a piece out. I need to make cuts with single flute, TiAln coated, 12 degree carbide tools. cutter diameters of .080, .040, .020, and .010. How will these tools hold up in this stuff. We have a 15000 rpm spindle.
  13. im trying to use a filter on the thing cause its just arcs at different z levels but it doesnt work right, keeps putting random lines it the middle of arcs
  14. I uploaded the file to the mc9 folder of the ftp. its called 8x6 block. It seems so simple i just dont have any surfacing experience
  15. I have a part that is a retangular block and it has a pill shaped surface cut out of it. Imagine two spheres connected togetherwith the same radius as the spheres. a mold for a long tylenol capsule. I hope im coming through clear. Whats the best toolpath to finish this with? I'm using a ball endmill.
  16. Will mastercam show pallet rotation and machining on a horizontal? V9.1 SP2 MR0105 Level 3
  17. No I wasnt saying that in mastercam you couldn't go back and edit your toolpaths, thats what I like about it. Id just like to see the actual faces highlight in mastercam x, and hopefully they have done this already
  18. Well, the thing is on this particular case,I had some small little filleted corners, and you wouldn't be able to tell they were selected unless you remembered clicking them. Reminds me of Clearcut mill (which i think became mastercam, although im not sure) You had to make all your toolpaths and had no way to go back and edit them, so if you screwed up, might as well start over.
  19. wow, so you are saying i am better to convert all my solids to surfaces? I thought you were supposed to be able to make toolpaths from solids. Arent solids better than surfaces? Seems like every other software has shaded faces on solids. Maybe this will change in X
  20. When I make a toolpath and I'm picking my faces for check surfaces, I have shading turned on, but when i select the face, it doesnt turn white, just the edges turn to red. I cant tell what I'm selecting. Is there a way to make the surfaces picked from a solid model appear as a completely shaded white (select color) or am i stuck trying to decipher which edges i have picked by using the edge lines?
  21. Does the tool comment output with every tool or just endmills and ballmills. Nothing output with keyseat cuter or bull mill. Also, does tool diameter automatically get truncated to 2 decimal places? Excellent chook by the way
  22. Can we have inky, pinky, winky, and whatever the other ghost's name was. Maybe when Mcam locks up, Pac-man can eat the screen.
  23. Well we dont have an edm. Most of our cutting is done with single flute carbide tools. All 12 Degree (24 degree included)Will these tools hold up with the stuff heat treated to 52 rockwell? The common tip sizes are 080 040 and 020. There are some really small characters also. We use the engraving package to cut these parts.
  24. Yes there are alot of small details in some of it. I guess my questions are too late, we already ordered S7. So what should i watch for in machining this stuff. The finish picking tool I use is a 12 degree single flute .02 nose tool. We have a 15000 rpm spindle. I usually use an .080 11 degree, a .040 11 degree for roughing.
