Were making parts that are used for branding and we are looking to switch materials. We have been using 1018 and most customers don't have complaints. Occasionally there is a customer that has a hotter heating unit and are melting/deforming. I'm looking for any info you guys can give me on which of the tool steels, S7 and O1 would be better in all aspects. Heat resistance, machinability, and so on. If there is a better material than both of these feel free to make any suggestions. We want to make parts that last, but just dont want to discontinue any kind of profits/time to do so. Yes it is. I suppose I should get a new one however. My dad gave me his. It's the 18th edition with a print date of 1968. Not a whole lot about cnc anything in there.

Does anyone know of a good place to find speeds and feeds. I am looking for a good reccomendation on a keo keyseat cutter but I cant find anything. The cutter im using is a 5/8 dia .125 cutter. Is there a formula to make it cut and last awhile? The cutter is hss cobalt.

are you talking about in the operations manager? if so you can change the defaults for the toolpath.

Oh yeah i forgot about that. It always defaults to in+int. Should we even report these things is mCam X is coming out? Arent they pretty much working from scratch or are there issues like this that will be transfered over, just with a different interface?

Yes thats what i have done. I just used it on translate and it worked fine. I triple checked the settings under mask when i was doing the drag. Everything is set right, it just selects everything. I was trying to select only color 10, just in case it matters. I guess everyone else can do this with no problems.

Can someone else check and see if this happens to them also? modify/drag, select a window with color mask on. My mastercam ignores the color mask and selects everything inside the window.

Anybody know what beta number X is in right now?

I've seen some cards do this. I found turing off hardware acceleration fixed it. I don't know why it has a problem.

hmm i wonder what the deal is. I was putting a vertical hatch in letter profiles at specific angles, and my .040 offset came out to be .0393 but it varied depending on the shape of the letter. One letter was .0373 its too much variance to trust it. have you ever measure the distance after converting it?

Browsing through I found this topic. I discovered when breaking into lines, they don't seem to be a consistent distance apart. They aren't the distance apart that you had input in the hatch dialog box. Does anyone else notice this?

update to this one. When opening a file again with mr0304 installed, trying to click on engraving parameters seems to bring a endless amount of error messages, like "Message 11207 in [CAMAIX] not found" and you really just have to shut down mastercam through task manager to get out of it. So apparently it seems as though if i have a job i used the engraving package on, and then want to open it again to repost for a job reapeat or to change a few things, I have to redo all of my toolpaths. Does anyone else even have the engraving package, and am I crazy?

Does anyone else have the engraving package? And if so do they notice how you can't effectively regen anything if you change part of the geometry, you really have to delete all your engraving toolpaths and totally redo them. Or is this just me. Also all the error messages are in German. Is this going to be updated eventually?

We have the engraving package. And it is under next menu, under toolpaths. I wish whoever makes the package would refine it a little and make it a little more intelligent when it comes to remachining, but what can you do? also give it an option not to finish the outer boundary like you have in a 2d pocketing operation. But I guess if not a lot of people have it, it gets pushed to the side when it comes to upgrading it a little. You can do things with it you couldn't do with the standard toolpaths, but the little things could be changed a little.

Ok, good that worked. Now when I go to defaults.df9 under nc utils default ops, its listed under 2d operations. Thanks alot for the quick reply

I just recently installed the maintanance upgrade and now I cannot set default values for engraving. It doesnt show up as an option in the defaults.DF9 file, under NCI Utils, default ops. I dont know why. I have to change like 7 settings each time I do a toolpath. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

no, im not going to reinstall it. it is working. nothing was masked. i would just open a new file and try to create entities, and nothing was there. oh well. video card is ok. It was like i couldnt click anywhere but the origin with the entities, but even clicking there nothing showed up. its working fine with the config file i started from the ground up

no color was 61, on level 1, with all levels active. It actually showed about 25 entities on level one too. But there were no visible entities. I tried changing all entities to color 10, but to no avail. I mean I got it to work now by redoing my whole config file. It seems like a weird thing that shouldn't happen no matter what. Maybe its a bug?

Well, it happened yesterday too, and I just turned the computer on this morning. Seems to have fixed it by remaking a config file. I guess the maintanace pack isn't compatible with all config files? Who knows?

Now that I tried something else, I cant create any geometry for some reason. I think if I load my config file seperatley, it works, should I just make a new config file from scratch within MR0304 and forget about using my 9.1 sp2 one?

Sounds weird but I can't make a rectangle with the Create, rectangle function. I get all the seetings set and then it just shows a white rectangle that I can't move. When I click it never puts one on the screen. Any ideas? It worked fine in 9.1 SP2
