  1. Pentium-M is a Pentium 4 --- Just extra cache (a good thing) and speed control (Configure your system to run full blast while plugged in).
  2. I'm running XP 64Bit Edition - after you install V9 go to: Start > RUN type in CMD and press enter on the screen type in: cd cdmcam9common hinstall -r That removes the V9 driver Then: cdmcamxcommon haspdinst -i You shoud be good to go.
  3. Beej, It makes a difference. Hyperthreading has the POTENTIAL to be faster, but every test I ran seems to indicate that for Mastercam it isn't. When you turn on Hyperthreading the system splits the external cache for use by the CPU - This is great for web pages and small files which is what INTEL expected to be used the most with their processors. But on large/complicated files such as Mastercam uses, the larger cache works much better. As for the Dual-core products, I am using a Dual-core Athlon 64x2 4400+, Window XP Professional x64 Edition, on this system. After playing with the affinity and registry settings I would say to just leave it to the OS to pick how to distribute CPU time. It works out about 10-15% better on really large files (over 50megs). It would be much faster if Mastercam had been compiled with switches to support simultaneous tasks. On my Unix boxes (years ago) when the post ran, even on large files, the system spawned a separate task to run the post and I was returned immediately to Mastercam and could get a lot more done while posting 15meg files at the same time. (Back in the day of Pentium 66mhz and 32megs of Ram - now THAT was a smokin' machine at the time).
  4. It depends on whether the system is using the 'regen' file or not. If it regens the file from scratch it will take more time. If you just generated a toolpath, then just regen it again the time will be dramatically shorter. For more accurate timing tests, change parameters such as chordal tolerance or depth cuts, record the changes and regen the path. You will be making the system throw out the old info and recalculate from scratch. If you go back and forth with the numbers you can get a good feel for the difference in speed.
  5. What I have done is to turn OFF all of the toolbars. Then, as I use X I start building toolbars with the features I actually use. Then, I won't have to find 'Rectangle' under the 'Spiral' drop-down that was last used. It will ALWAYS be exactly where I put it. Craig
  6. Close Mastercam, right-click on your desktop Select 'properties' Select the Settings Tab Select the 'Advanced' button Select the 'Troubleshoot' tab Set the hardware acceleration slider to the second from the left. Try it again. Or, in Mastercam: Select Screen/Configure/'Screen' tab and unSelect 'use OpenGL' (you may have to go back and turn shading off to do this ), BUT when you turn shading back on you will have cursor problems again.
  7. Water expands when becoming ice. That would probably tear the honeycomb apart. (I know it will explode a bottle of beer left in the freezer too long)
  8. A couple of customers use ECG (Electro-Chemical-Grinders) to cut extremely thin / Delicate materials. However, The machinable wax sounds workable - depending on the thickness of the base material.
  9. Usually the power company will put a line monitor on a machine for a 24 hour period to see if the problem is theirs. Some machines us a 'regenerative discharge' into the power line to slow a machine down. With the fast acceleration and deceleration of some lathes I have seen a 50 to 100 volt change in line voltage. (you can actually hear the wires vibrating in the conduit). It is kind of like, when someone uses a welder, and tries to strike a arc and you can hear the welder pull full load - machines nearby will 'jump', or issue a error message. Pay attention to what is happening at other machines when you have the problem. The source may be next your machine, and not at the machine itself.
  10. I have found that if a graphics card is sharing the same interrupt with a network adapter then a lockup situation can happen. To check for this, Control Panel System Hardware tab Device Manager View (resources by connection Interrupt request (IRQ) look at your IRQ for both the graphics card and Network adapter. They should NOT be using the same interrupt. If you have a network card that is plugged into a slot, you can move it to another slot and that will generally correct the problem. (IRQ's are usually slot dependant, and you probably can not move the graphics card) Craig Madsen
  11. The 64-bit Athlon computer seems to be very FAST. I have not read if there are any issues with the 64-bit Intel chips. I am waiting for the dual core chips to be in production for a few months before changing systems. Craig
  12. Are you sure you have NETWORK Admin privileges? Local Admin means you can change your LOCAL Machine. If you have Admin privileges on the server, when you are mapping your network drives, you can give the machine you are on the privileges you have on the server by connecting with your name and password when you map the drive. Click on "Conntect using a DIFFERENT USER NAME"
  13. At 100ipm, if your control can process a line in the memory buffer in .005 seconds, that works out to a minimum move of .0083". SO, if your moves are shorter than this, your machine is getting to position faster than your control can process the next move. Since you have such a large positioning tolerance available, you can do as BernieT just suggested, but I would open the total tolerance up to .01" and turn off the arc filter. If you have too large a tolerance with the arc filter on you may get random 'full circle' moves when your control tries to fit things together to compensate for errors in postition data. Craig Madsen
  14. Changing between format 1 and 2 is more than just setting some switches. Drilling and Tapping use different variables, and different values between the formats. There are several pages in your FADAL manual that detail the differences. Usually these are in the notes in each section of the manual. Craig Madsen
  15. I've had a customer do this successfuly for quite a while, then one part decided not to stick and it then went through the side of the machine guard. (Fadal 4020). It is like driving 80mph. Just cause you can get away with it 'most' of the time, it doesn't mean you will always get away with it. As a minimum, I would put clamps near the areas where you will be cutting. It is also hard to place the part accurately with tape.
  16. OK, what is it you think is wrong with Democrats? I am a Democrat. Here is where I think there are major differences with the Republican party. 1. It is NOT 'tax and spend' it IS 'tax THEN spend'. If you don't have the money, DON'T SPEND IT. (It doesn't work at home and will never work for the USA). How are we going to recover the squandered surplus? 2. Religious beliefs should not be imposed on people - not for any reason. (If you think abortions are wrong - don't have one). (time to go - class just arrived) Craig Madsen
  17. One of my brothers told his daughter he is buying her a van with the fold down bed in the back. There will be a great sound system, DVD/TV, refrigerator, etc. Because HE wants to be comfortable when SHE goes on dates. Craig Madsen
  18. A-ron, I am all in favor of war - when it is necessary, and with maximum firepower. 'I believe in detente, through superior firepower and immediate retaliation'. I don't believe China would come to the aid of North Korea (this time), they want us to back down on supporting Taiwan. As well, I don't think they like having uncontrolled nuclear capability in North Korea. Iran MAY have designs on nuclear weapons, North Korea DOES. I do not worry about China and their Long March missiles - overall we have had acceptable relations with them. Where China is a concern is with their increasing demand for oil - they have 4 times the people and are industrializing at a current growth rate of 30%. Their demand is now second only to ours, and will surpass ours in less than 4 years. (say goodbye to cheap gas, though I will keep my truck). I just don't see us taking the long term steps necessary to keep America a growing, thriving, economy when we can see the writing on the wall. This includes 'overseas outsourcing', science and math education, local manufacturing and machine technology, etc. Long term, we need to work on international issues, energy dependance, and manufacturing. We can not ignore looming problems.
  19. I'm guessing we will move most, but not all, within the next year. Rumsfeld has grossly underestimated the tenacity of our opponents. The current administration has missed many opportunities to show their awareness of how our world is reorganizing, to our detriment. The troop movement I just read this morning in the paper will be too little and too late. Another prediction based on this new info - If Bush is re-elected - Expect the draft to be restarted, if not by congress at the administrations request, then by executive order. (time frame - within 4 months of the election - if he wins, but not before the election). We don't have the manpower in the military to support the extended deployments in the middle-east, and then to ALSO backup our 'implied' threats to the other nations. I think there will be support staff in Europe for a few years. Then, like Manilla, we will be forced to 'voluntarily' close the bases. Later, Craig
  20. Predictions if Bush gets re-elected? We find reasons to pull troops out of Europe. (Germany, France, Spain, etc.) We find reasons to go to war with another middle-eastern nation. (Iran or Syria - probably Syria - it is less able to defend itself.) We still pussyfoot around North Korea (proven and claimed nuclear threat - and building a new missile system to boot). As well - we will pull out most of our troops from South Korea to support a new war elsewhere. We won't consult with, or negotiate with anyone regarding any of the above.
  21. 1996 Kawasaki GPZ 1100. Box stock. 1999 Harley Road King Classic. 10.25:1 pistons. 204 cam. stage 2 chip. better exhaust - but not loud. Intake kit. etc. Dyno 53 hp stock - now Dynos at 89.5 hp and 100 lbs torque. Just sold my 73 honda CB750 to my neighbor.
  22. If you look at the car close enough, it looks like the v6 version with the raised spoiler on the back. That being said, the guy did a decent job of not crashing 2 out of 3 times. Craig
  23. Well, the powers that be have decided not to delay the voting. (from news yesterday as I remember). There would have to have been something major that happened to get people out to vote in any event. As we have seen, the voting turnout is pretty dismal. I voted late in the afternoon during the primary and noted that only 56 people had voted during the 8 hours before I did. Maybe, if people were truly concerned enough to vote or participate in their communities we would have a 'representative' government - with a little bit better accounting from our government. Craig Madsen [email protected] P.S. (seems like my wife is always volunteering, SHE volunteers, I end up working, but I have met and know most of my neighbors within about 1 mile radius).
