  1. Ok so the tool I will be using is very sharp and really has no tip diameter in other words it has no it has no bottom diameter. So what do I put in the "tip offset" field ?
  2. Hello Can anyone tell me how to exactly use the 2D chamfer in Contour. Ok lets say I have a 1" bore diameter and I want to put on it a 45 degree chamfer by .010 (chamfer amount). I will be using a .250 diameter 45 degree chamfer mill. I also want to use the cutter comp. So I will set it to "wear" and compensation direction to the left. Then I select from contour type "2D chamfer" ,when I go to the exclamation point there is a window that says "chamfering" . What am I suppose to put in the width and the tip offset? I know how to put in a chamfer by just sneaking up on it with a Z minus and not using the 2D chamfer . But I really would like to know how to use this feature correctly and take out the guess work. Thanks
  3. Ok thanks I will try that sometime today. Fred

  9. I seem to have lost some of the functions such "Find" "Replace" and "Goto". Even though I can get to these in the pull down menu. I also have tried to reset the tool bars. But it does return to it's original when installed. Can anyone tell me how to restore to the original defaults ? Thanks
  10. In this box the tool shows up to the right of the stock at lets say 0 degrees ,but I can't set it to where the tool shows up at the left and the material is to the . It does rotate but only from 89 degrees to -89 . How do I get it to go to 180 degrees ? So that when I apply it the tool is cutting from left to right direction.
  11. After creating a program in MC9 . I post it. Then I need to look at the code, Edit some of it in the NC file .An save it as a new NC file. Ok here is my question: How do I send this new NC file to the machine. Can someone walk me through it in a simple list? Thanks
  12. TaperLength : I tried that but in the regen it says "tool does not fit "
  13. ok But what do I have to select as my geo. ? Should I just draw a line in the center of the groove ? Because the profile of the groove is a V shape and the insert is going down the right side ? Also I think I can get away on using the dwell . I will leave the machine on a lower RPM that way the motor will not tend to stall.
  14. Hi: I am using MC. ver 9. I need to machine parallel groove on the OD of a pulley. I never used the Lathe program side of MC. But all I want to do is come in with the tool and peck and dwell, then step over and do the same. I tried using the groove op but in back plot it pulls the tool out at an angle which I don't need. And I don't want to machine to the sides either. I just want to peck dwell retract several times to the bottom of the groove then step over to do the other groove. I have a total of 5 grooves all identical. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong ? Thanks
  15. Thad : Thanks that works great. My mistake was I kept selecting the color from the "Shade Settings
  16. Hi Guys : I have made a drawing with several solid bodies. How do I can I change the color of every individual solid body to a different color ? I have tried but always end up with the same color ? Any answers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  17. Jay you could be right. Plus the I.T. Guys at work say that all the programmers at work need brand new computers that cost about $4 grand a piece. All I know is that the computer I have also works as a printer sever for the rest of the group. And at times it really slows down.
  18. Hi Guys : I need to buy a computer laptop preferred. That will be able to run Mastercam real good. I have a budget that is small. Are their any particular models that I can look at? Please suggest brand names. I know that on Mastercam.com they tell you what to get. But those are minimum requirements. I will be doing a lot of surfacing. So I don't want it to slow down or freeze.
  19. Hello to all and a very Happy New Year !!! At work there several of us that need to ge up to speed on Surfacing with X3 . We are debating what would be the best way to get some good training. We are more or less familiar and have expierince with Mastercam. But we all need to take it to a different level. Anyways we are considering some training through tipsforcadcam.com, streamingteacher.com or caminstuctor.com Our question is the following which of these is better ??? Or can anyone make some other sugestions, for us to take into consideration ? All suggestions will be appreaciated. Thanks
  20. hello can any one tell me how to machine a countour on 3d or 3 axis move.along x and z move
  21. Another way is to contact your local Mastercam salesman. And ask them to give you an evaluation copy of a raster to vector converter for MCX. I have done this in the past. I was able to use it for about a month. Then I purchased it about a year later. Its Made by Mastercam and it works great. Like all new software it has a learning curve. Plus if you something that most people are used to in this forum you will be able to get your answers to most of your questions.
  22. What do you do when "Change at Point " is greyed out ?
