  1. Hello. When I try to import any operation that uses a custom tool (the geometry is in a file), nothing happens. Is this a bug or am I missing something? Thanks.
  2. You can turn any round profile with controlled threading (G32 on fanuc) using any round insert that is smaller than the profile radius. - Draw/extract the profile of the thread (single, not the whole repeating thread) - Create a finishing operation on the profile - Save the toolpath geometry in backplot - Put some points over the toolpath geometry, the more points, the more accurate and smooth the profile will be - Break the toolpath geometry at the points - Post the finishing cycle to get the coordinates. - Add G0 in front of each coordinate and G32 Z-(desired depth) after it That should do it. Because Mastercam cannot do this automatically I am going to write a script myself next time I need to turn multi-start thread with custom profile (it was quite a drudge the last time
  3. Thanks but I don't think it is very high on their priority list since nobody rarely seems to ever use it... Of course the -1 suggestion would work only if the value stayed -1 after inputting, as if -1 = ignore this radius. If the program calculated it immediately and changed the radius to the calculated value, that would create another layer of problems
  4. Interesting... whatever it is Here's a concrete example of the problem (attachment). The radius at the start of the edge should be 1 and 5 at the end. There is no easy way to do this... TEST2.zip
  5. What's the fastest and easiest way to check if a 2D toolpath has any undercuts? Currently I have no other choice but to backplot through the entire 2D curve using quick verify, yet I still could miss some parts where the tool does not completely touch the path. It would be AWESOME if there was a button called "Show undercuts" in the menu or something similar!
  6. However, a single edge makes the use of variable radius fillet trouble-free as far as dynamic custom points are concerned. A little feature request: how about when entering -1 as the corner radius, the program would automatically calculate the appropriate radius using the previous and next point?
  7. Dunno about that model but I can as well say that Doosan (PUMA) lathes are good machines - been working with a 250, 350, 400 (current) and a 700 - all of them solid performers.
  8. Yeah. But I've got another question which I may have already asked before long ago (forgive me if so)... Variable radius fillet is used for the edge between two intersecting/trimmed curved surfaces. When we get the solid from a client, the edge will appear in Mastercam as one: "Create curve for single edge" -feature will create a single spline of the edge. However, when we have to do the modeling ourself using Mastercam (draw two profiles, no matter if splines or lines&arcs, create sweep surfaces and then trim them to each other etc.) the edge will never appear as a single edge but as a series of edges after the surfaces are converted to a solid. Our client uses Solidworks for modeling. I'd like to know the explanation for this disparency.
  9. No I can't The points always exist for edge start and end.
  10. We use this feature a lot. The problem is that when selecting two fillet points dynamically, for example, one point for R0.5 and another for R3, there could be auto-generated points between these user points which reset the transition. Is there any way to overcome this problem without having to assing some "good-looking" number between 0.5 and 3 to these points? Also, it seems there's a bug which prevents me from selecting the edge of a solid when using top view (or any other main view), clicking the edge does absolutely nothing. Rotating the view even so slightly solves the problem.
  11. Does 2017 finally officially support multiple instances of the program? Come on, how many of you do NOT have several instances open at once all the time?
  12. Good day. I have to change the UI language from english to finnish (not my choice). I tried doing a repair install using the finnish media USB stick but it didn't do anything. Exactly what files do I have to manually overwrite or do I have to do a clean install? Thanks.
  13. Ribbon bar...? NOOOOOOO!!! Please tell me the GUI can be switched to classic
  14. Actually I've though of modifying the post processor so that when I enter 0 as a feed in CAP, the post will go back to using the toolpath's default feed. So 0 quits the modality.
  15. Sorry, I meant that when using depth cuts, I'd have to manually enter the value 100 times for each depth of cut. Not very practical. CAP works for each depth of cut.
  16. Thanks for the reply. I can't use toolpath editor because it does not work with depth cuts. Just wondering why there is no "modal" option in CAP...
  17. How on earth do you make facing so that the last pass won't cut air (zigzag or unidirectional)? I can't use dynamic because there's not enough memory for the toolpath. I try changing the parameters but each time a. the first pass takes too much or b. the last pass cuts air. Thank you!
  18. This is a minor annoyance so... I have a habit of importing a lot of operations from another mastercam file as the jobs are quite similar. I like to update one op at a time, using the Regenerate selected operation button (green play icon next to a tool) in operation manager. However, this button has a habit of nagging about some surface operations that have 0 geometry selected, even if I have not selected them. Any chance of fixing this (X9)?
  19. In X8, change at point (feedrate) seems to apply only to a single element, whereas in X9 the feedrate stays on for the rest of the toolpath. Is there some setting to make it back non-modal?
  20. Hello. What's the easiest way to create any circular groove that must be within two Z-values? For a simple example, I have a slot mill of 1.5 width and the width of the groove is 3.5 (from Z-10 to Z-13.5). I could - create three profile operations with every unique Z depth, or - create a single profile using depth cuts The problem with both is that I have to calculate top of stock and depth for every tool and it becomes even more onerous with depth cuts. I'd love if Mastercam was able to do the calculations for me Thanks.
  21. Any chances of making this happen? This would be incredibly useful (at least for me).
  22. Thanks a lot! Is the "show coordinate axes" option available somewhere in the options or menjs because i could not find it With selected entity linestyle I didnt mean the actual geometry but the style selected geometry is displayed in the viewport. I am able to change the color from yellow but not the linestyle.
  23. Hello. Using x7 for lathe and finally in the process of migrating to x9. Two questions. - how do i restore the vertical and horizontal lines at world origin? Why were they removed in the first place? - how do i change selected geometry line style? The dashing is too sparse. I really hope its not "you cant" for both... Thanks.
