  1. I am going on the 10th. One day to get in check out our machines and software we are evaluating and get out. That was managments stipulations for even being able to go. I exopect to feel like I was rode hard and put away wet by the end of the day. I have to hit all three buildings to get this done. EDM, Mill, and Saws. CAN'T WAIT
  2. Model is the only way we fly. I had the engineers start dimensionine everything to nominal and we are of and cooking. Print is only a reference for critical dimension call out.
  3. I too would like to hear what you have to say about it. I like Corey work with negative stock allowance. I don't have permission to visit the FTP site so help me out.
  4. Just and idea.... Surface finish contour both walls with the 1 mm by .1 radius with a .001" step down. This will allow you to genrate the radius along the bottom of the wall with an awsome surface finish. I would run 18 ipm at 30000rpm for the finish cut.
  5. I just checked my catalogues and OSG doesn't offer an bull mill standard in 1mm size. Tesco does have one that is 1 mm with .1mm radius but the length of cut is 3.3 mm (item# 920ML010-MEGA-T) I have used these cutters in S7 54-56 Rc and have excecllent success using their paramaters. They tend to be even more agressive than the spreadsheet I have from MAKINO. If you don't have a contact use mine. Richard Sanchez 1-877-908-3726 he is directly from TESCO here in the DC area.
  6. Fadal also stuck you with propritory memroy you have to buy from them. We did a 4 meg upgrade 4 years ago and they charged us over $2000. I found it was faster and easier to drip feed the machine as long as you weren't doing surface work. Then again I do wonsy twosy work.
  7. I was in the National Guard for 9 years. I was trained very well at operating and commanding and M1A1. I was trained twice for fours in 9 years on civil disturbance and crowd control. All of the deaths are a shame, and I would lay odds that many of the Guardsmen that have been killed in the line of duty recieved 4 weeks intense training and were shipped right over there. When you the names ranks and ages many of them had to less than informed on their responsiblities.
  8. I with 2 other guys build about 30 high precision 4 cavity molds per year. I have seen time and time again that buying more expensive materials payoff greatly in the over all cost of the molds. The cavities are more stable and have better wear properties. Most of out mold get cycled around 150K to 200K per year some even more. The steel and quality materials are inexpensive when you look at downtime. My boss freeked out the first time I took him in order for diamond coated endmills. After they ran about 40 times longer he asked why were you ordering these last year when you started. I guess as they say cost is relative.
  9. I was not questioning your expierence. I have seen enugh of your posts to know you have the know how. Just making a general observation that people tend to by a machine for a specific application then wonder why it won't do another. Or they get angry at the supplier when the spindle bearings go out because they were trying to run a 2" face mill in a 63F spindle. Like I said earlier my parts are very small (and sometime smaller) and I have limited expierence with the bigger stuff. On a side note. I do get into cavity blocks that are 6 x 8 x 2 " out of H-13 periodically and I have had great success with the stability of Ovar Supreme from Uddleholm.
  10. Sorry I won't be of any help in the c-hook environment.
  11. Thanks but there will be none of that here. I don't like carbide unless its on the wire.
  12. We have the 63F with the 30K spindle in our SNC64. I am very pleased for the work we do, but my roughing cutters are ¼". We buy the SST Slimline through OSG no problem getting balance holders and insert at the drop of a Hat. IF money were not an issue I would probably go with the Haimer line. It is so clean and smooth, and balance impecably. We know have them balance all of our holders. My personal opinon. If you are buying a HSM run it like an HSM and put you milling, drilling and tappping operations on a cheaper VMC. We are now milling things that I never though possible ie .4mm cutters x 2mm loc in 54-56 Rc S-7. By doing this my Ram EDM is setting idle more and more.
  13. Are you going to create different text or the same text for every job? Creating Chooks is above my skill set but I have created engraving files that I just merge into my other files for company logo and mold identification. I then use my library to engrave text. Gotta love MC million ways to do everything, some just easier than others.
  14. Thanks, IZN and Phil what were you cutting on the MB14? Phil, was the accuracy tied to the quill scale or was the quill drifting in the cut due to cutting forces? Which machine do you think is better for the money?
  15. When I established the network connections on my machine I had constant problems because we were going through a secondary hub. I would have to restart the software constantly to reestablish the connection. I had our IT department pull me off the hub and install dedicated connection to the main network and have not had any problems since. Just a thought.
  16. Thanks for the info. For all of you guys with the machines how do you find Fryer's support? We are going through this big discussion here right now about fixed head vs. quill. We only have room and electrcity left for one machine. I really feel we need and all encompassing machine (when ran properly) so we can do our small repairs (ie removing broken bolts, busted horn pins, ect) and still be able to set it up to drill ejector pin holes and waterlines.
  17. Thanks, I pulled the flyers and will bring it up in the next shop meeting.
  18. Thanks, It never hurts to hear someone else's expierences. Are they using them in production or for "this and that" jobs.
  19. We are currently looking at an all purpose tool room mill. One with a quill for manual ops and repairs, as well as CNC capabilities mold base work. The mold base work will require the machine to have some rigidity Has anyone ran or worked with a Fryer Mill? This one seems to be topping the list we have developed. It has and ANIMLAM-FRYER 3000 control on it. Any other comments or suggestions would be appriciated.
  20. I totally agree with you James. I was just pointing out that too many small vendors rely whooly upon one big customer to make their payroll, and anything else is icing.
  21. We just keep adding more and more to the repsonsiblities of the Mold Shop here. I hired another guy to work nights and keep machines running, ie cut down my workload. Management saw it as an opportunity to put more through the shop. The good thing is we keep increasing our capablities and keep things in house. Bad thing is some of our smaller vendors are suffering. Word to the wise: diversify.
  22. I sometimes wish I had one of those bikes that corner great.... It is usually as I am replacing the $100 foot pegs I have drug the chrome off and that have started to rust.
  23. My Dad and Mom just got back from Wing Ding. They ride a 2003 Black Wing. They got thrid place in the bike and trailer catagory, might see their picture in the next issue. I'm not wishing to get old, but I can't wait until my wife and I can leave the kids alone for a couple of days and take a trip. When that time come the Valk will go and the Wing will arrive. It is the only way to fly.
  24. Poke a little fun and everyone gets touchy. I just rode from Paducah KY to Balitimore MD in 13 hours (827 miles) in one day. I don't ride with a fairing or windshield and let me tell you I wish did after that ride every year. I had so many bugs on my jacket, pants, and helmet I would have been an entomologists dream.
  25. Do you belong to GWRRA? I ride a 99 Valkyrie Dragon, because I love the smell of roast pork.
