  1. Rick, Hows the tool life? Rory
  2. We have been getting to cutting carbon fiber. Does anybody have any experiance cutting this stuff? What type of tooling works the best? We have tried Niagara & RobJack endmills with the TiALN coating. Has anyone had better luck with any other brand or type? All the work is small dia. cutters so we can't use indexable cutters. Any help would be appreciated. Rory [ 08-28-2001: Message edited by: Rory Reinhold ]
  3. I am using a modified version of the Mpcent5.pst. The fella who was programming before me modified the post and he did'nt keep the best records. James, What does the pbld stand for? Its not defined in the post.
  4. James, I'm not using subs or multiple fixture offsets. Rory
  5. I have been programming for a Milltronics Partner with a Centurion V control. My question has to do with the Home Position and transform toolpath option. When I post a file without a transform operation, the home position is output. If I post the same file with a transform operation, the home position is not output. Is this a problem with the post? If so can any one tell me where to find it and how to get around it? Thanks, Rory
  6. Hi all, I created a speed and feed optimizing calculator in Microsoft Excel. This calculator figures the spindle speed (RPM) and feed rate (IPM) according to the width of cut (WOC). It also gives the metal removal rate (MRR) which is helpful to find the horsepower required. Only the cells (variables) in yellow can be changed. If you use this along with Mastercam you can do a change at point in the chain manager to add changes. I have placed a copy of the file on Cadcam's FTP site. Its in the following location: unspecified uploadsMilling spd-fd calc v3.xls Take it for what its worth. Rory

Simtech, Awesome tip! (Alt-G) Its easy to get lost on the screen.
  8. I have tried to record a macro to set the Cplane construction origin, but had no success. I e-mailed tech support at MC and they told me it is bug and thanked me for my input. I also recorded a simple macro to draw a border to represent a standard fixture in our shop. I use it quite a bit and placed the short cut on an "alt-key". It saves a little time.
  9. Kenneth Potter asked if there were any dealers that offer post classes. Here is a dealer in Wisconsin. Shopware Inc. 13706 W. Ferguson Road New Berlin, Wisconsin 53151 Phone: (262) 641-0402 Fax: (262) 641-0403 Shopware inc. Email: [email protected]
  10. I work for EMT International, were located in Green Bay WI, USA. EMT designs and manufactures systems and accessories for the printing, converting, and paper industries. We also took on a new product line recently, core holding. EMT bought the product line from Deublin company. Deublin company manufactures rotary unions, machine tool manufactures use rotary unions for through Spindle coolant. I have been using Mastercam for about 2 years now and just recently updated to v8.1. Great job Mastercam. I think this forum is a great idea and I am hoping to be able to share some advise and tips. 11. Its great to have a group like this so we can all pick each others brains. Thanks much for the help. Lots of good suggestions.
  12. I understand what ferdelance is saying, this sound like it will work for one vise. How do I work on the next vises? Do i have to create geometry at each vise?
  13. I am trying to avoid the situation that Andrew McRae mentioned, causing the datum to be reversed on half of the stations as the fixed jaw is usually in the middle. How can I jump over the center jaw and still work with the datum against the center (fixed jaw)?
  14. We have a VMC set up with 3 double station chick vises. I would like to know if anyone has any suggestions on what the easiest approach is to program this set up. I always create the geometry in the first fixture offset. I know that I can Transform the tool path along the X axis, but in order to work on the other side of the vises I cannot transform the transformed tool path by doing a transform rotate. I would like to avoid creating geometry in each offset because it can become labor intensive to make any changes.
