  1. Martin, We'll see how much luck I have getting the In-House post. Maybe somehow, someone can throw me a bone. Cool to know about the "Z" for the spindles being the same. On our Mori the Z- movement is always to the left and Z+ always to the right. We also have to change our circular interpolation from G02 to G03 on the different spindles. In Mastercam do you program each spindle in it's own file and as a left spindle or do you have both spindles defined and draw it up as you would see it on the machine? It is the P200L control. Would you suggest training to take place in our shop or at a training center. Maybe I can come work at your or Chris's shop for a month or two to get my training. Poutine and tortiere or Steamed New England Mussels and Baked Beans. Les Canadiens or the Bruins. HHhhmmmmmmm. Decisions, decisions, decisions.
  2. Doug, somehow 1F doesn't sound nearly as cold as -17. Of course it is. Bundle up, stay warm.
  3. Greg, I left just in time yesterday was -24C and today with windchill it'll be -40C. Exposed skin starts to freeze in less than a minute. Hey, old ReDeYeS, do you miss Edmonton now? Chris, I'm betting I'll be giving you a call if the machine comes.
  4. Sorry about that Chris. I went, to the land of -17C, this past weekend to check the machine out. It looks pretty good. Checked out the run time monitor and low and behold 140 hours run time 115 hours in the cut. The inside was nice and clean, ie. no paint chipped. Checked alignments all seemed good. Most M codes control something other than what I'm used to. I think the bossman wants it. We'll see. Maybe I'll be challenged at work once again.
  5. I'm guessing mastercam's MTM capabilities will have us looking for solutions. At least we are a fairly small shop and only have two seats so a change would not be too financially devastating.
  6. I plan on checking alignments and such. There is power to the machine and I have a guy there who will be showing me the machine.
  7. I showed that to the bossman a week ago and he seems satisfied with the replies he got back regarding that machine. It is is a problem for us I at least let him know about that guy's issue.
  8. What are some things you would be looking for such as evidence of a crash, checking alignment etc. I am told the machine has power to it so I'll get them to do a bit of cutting for me like an offset hole using polar notching and or the Y axis to check the roundness of the hole. Lay some ideas on me.
  9. Hi Guys, the boss man is asking me to have a look at an Okuma LT200-MY lathe for our shop. It has twin spindles, twin turret and y-axis. The machine is a 2007 but supposedly has only about 160 hours of chip cutting on it. The story goes that a new shop was set up just before the economy tanked and went into receivership. The tool supplier bought the whole shop lock stock and barrel and this is one of the machines. Price is good so I'm going to Edmonton on Thursday to have a look at it. Do any of you have experience with these lathes? Any pro's or con's to consider?
  10. Shalom you guys. Convince Elad into taking you for a flight in his plane.
  11. Welcome VictorG. I hope you find the forum a helpful place to hang out.
  12. Good to see you around Jack. Still working in shops?

  13. Tony, If I'm having chip problems I will sometimes take my finishing cut on the area closest to the collet or chuck first and then come back to finish the part. This way you don't pinch the chips as you go further along in the Z minus direction. Also when I move back to the front of the part I'll sometimes rapid out 5 or 6 inches away from the face. This will allow the coolant to blast any chips off the tool before re-approaching the part. Good luck.
  14. Make sure you have the compensation direction set to right on the cutoff parameters page.
  15. I'm having some problems with inserts standing up with this on going thread in 316 SS. Right now I'm using a small kennametal bar with the NT1 insert. Does anyone have any ideas for other bars? Thanks.
  16. Cjep, Thanks for the info I just made some changes to my post thanks to your info here. Work great.
  17. Got it I was not in the axis combination but another place. Thanks John, even though you didn't even know I was having problems. Daymn you're good. . . . . . . .. I feel like I'm talking to myself.
  18. I just saw johns post from the 20th. Do I delete the whole Y branch of the machine configuration or can I just uncheck the box?
  19. I tried changing this to "No$" - didn't work Tried changing this to "0" - didn't work so I tried turning off the "Y" section in the machine definition - didn't work. y_axis_mch : no$ #SET_BY_MD - Machine has a Y axis, 0=no, 1=yes - Set based on Axis Combination in MD What else other than finding the comand line for the rapid move the deleting the call for "Y"? Or is that the way to do it? Thanks.
  20. Hi I'm trying to get the "Y0" to not post out. I have tried a number of things to no avail. Can anyone direct me to where I turn this off? Mplmaster.pst and GENERIC 3/4 AXIS LATHE This is for a Mori seiki SL200 SMC lathe just in case there are already posts and mach def's floating around. 21. Thanks for the leads guys. There is some good stuff to work with. Jay is the art library open to non art guys?
  22. I have a chance to trade some salmon fishing for a couple plaques with ducks engraved on them. Does anyone have an engraving package with some images of ducks? Swimming or taking off with bull rushes would be nice. Thanks, Phil
  23. You might want to get a copy of the machinist handbook too. Good luck.
  24. PEEK also had a tendency to chip as your drill breaks through so keep your tools sharp. Change them often.
