DFX IGS question

But, sometimes funky things happen to the dims.

I second that. Dimension notes get scattered about all over the place. Regular dims are close, but still not in the places they're supposed to be in.

have you tried IGES conversions? it don't work, either. frown.gif

Personally, I don't trust the conversions until I measure the results in MasterCam myself and compare them to the original file or drawing. On occasion I have had Autocad drawings appear to come in just fine only to discover when trying to chain, that the lines and arcs were on very slightly different planes (sometimes as little as 0.0001 difference). That can be a real pain..... especially when you get multiple overlapping line segments.

Gary, what you are seeing is how they draw in Autocad.

I find and alot of engneering dept that use it use it loosly.

They dont take into the thought that some one might actully use the to drive a tool across.

I helping a at company trying to get there eng dept to try and draw true to DIM.

So that there floor can take the files direct and cut.

DXF geometry comes in fine (If drawn correctly!)

Dim text doesnt seem to come in. No spline support in DXF.

Iges is more comprehensive (If drawn correctly!)

and dims and splines come in fine.

Alot of Autocad users are not machining. They print the file on paper and now they have a blueprint. However, the actual geometry may be screwed up in the CAD and when you bring it into MC you have to fix it up before you can use it for machining. In my experience.
