CAn Autocad Drawings be imported into MasterCAM

I preferto do my drawings in Autocad 2004 can these drawings be used in MasterCAM to make CNC mill G Code?

you asked for importing Autocad file in mastercam. So Yes you can import them,

File -> converter ->Autodesk ->read file.

 

But as far as G codes are concern you have to generate programes in mastercam.

If you have a V8 or less of mastercam, the DWG converter was an ad-on that had to be purchased seperately.

what about saving in AutoCAD as "IGES"? , type "IGES OUT" at the command line - you should be able to pull it into MC that way.

Gonzo IGES is standard file format whcich is acceptable in most of 3d softwares. But When you can directly import autcad file why go for an IGES. You got 9.1. you can import them.

the IGES format is kind of a generic format that a lot of softwares are able to read/write. But I would suggest that you save in DWG format out of AutoCAD.

if you don`t have a ".dwg" convertor in an older version of MC - then go with the .iges. In AutoCAD you simply type in at the command line. "igesout" to save and "igesin" to import. Before importing or exporting - at the command line, type "CMDDIA" and hit enter. Make sure you are set on #1. Also. type in "FILEDIA" and hit enter. Make sure you are set on #1. These settings will bring up your display optoins when you iges in or out.
