we use 1 1/2 x dia here for all metals and 2x dia for plastics

So would I. I was referring to the weight that the screws are supporting in the 50 or more details that are above my head.

Different shops do different types of work. Building dies, I can't think of a time where a detail would have to be threaded all the way thru like that. I've never seen it in the past 9.5 years here anyway.
