Pro/E files

[Simtech]

Do some of you use the Cimsoftek C-Hook to read in Pro/E native files?

If the answer is "yes", can we read in a "drw.58" file type.

We have the pro-E translator, but i have never seen that .dwg.58 exention before. Our have always been a .prt.#

The only formats the translator accepts are .prt(part file) or .asm (Assembly) hope this helps

Anytime I recieve a Pro-E file I have them send it as part#.IGES to my email account and I can just double click on the file. It then automatically opens up in Mastercam.

While IGES is easy it can also be a nightmare Rick .. It can import as untrimmed surfaces etc.. the atdvantage to using the direct pro-e e file or .prt file is it can be imported as a true solid which is much easier to work with..iges will only import as surfaces ..

The .drw.# file is for a Pro-E drawing. To get a 3D part you'll need to import or convert the .prt.# file. I usually convert them to .igs format, but it is sometimes quite messy.

With any CAD system out there, it is always better for the CAM user if he/she can import the native file. An earlier post said that you can import the "solid" with the ProE translator. You can only import the solid if you have the solid feature add-on from MC. Otherwise, it will be brought in as surfaces. That is not a bad thing though. The file will still be extremely clean. Everything will be trimmed and nothing extra. IGES is good for the most part, but too much work for the CAM user to get tooling lines, arcs, etc... from the file. Most will know what I mean by that statement. Sometimes when you create "curves" from an IGES and then try to "squash" them, chains will not connect and that takes time an effort to trim or clean them up. That is just one problem that seems to be the most common.

So, the bottom line in my opinion: Get a native file translator.

Got a hold of the "asm.*" file but the Pro/E converter crashes on the file.

Here it is on the FTP site, I'm not sure if this is going to come out right, it's my first try.

Seems that the *.prt files need to be present so the *.asm file loads properly. Will try to get a hold of the *.asm file.

This is to close the topic. Got hold of the asm and prt files.

Everything works great ... reading in the asm file brings in each file creating the overall assembly.

Over and done !
