RUNTIME ERROR WITH MASTERCAM

Hi Guys.

My system went to Sh*t. Had to dump everything.

They reloaded system with Windows XP. (From NT)

While using MC I get an error which reads

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error

Program; C:Mcam9mill9.exe

Abnormal Program Termination.

Than it shuts down Mastercam. When I reopen MC

and call in a program it loads fine but shows nothing on the screen at all. I need to reboot for everything to be back to norm.

Is there any suggestions as to what I can try.

I had to reload MC as well and I had no backup of anything.

Video is NVIDIA Geforce FX5700

system is Windows XP Prof.

with AMP Athlon XP2200+ -- 1.79 GH, 512 mb ram. frown.gif

I have no idea what the above 3 lines means.

I dont know about the termination part, but I got my xp this week and my cursor would blink a million times a second and when I would call a program in all it would do is flash the image on the screen then disappear. I couldnt get the cursor to snap it just highlighted the lines. Anyway I searched the forum and found that I had to back down my hardware accelerator down a couple clicks. Then everything worked fine. Maybe have to back down hardware accelerator.

Threept82,

Many people have experienced similar problems when switching to XP. It sounds to me like a .dll file somewhere may be corrupt and is not reading properly. frown.gif

There are a few very knowledgable folks around here (both human and non-human)who will probably be able to give you a better explanation. wink.gif

There are 2 simple rules to remember when doing anything involving computers:

Rule #1: ALWAYS make backup copies of anything important!!

Rule #2: NEVER violate Rule # 1!! wink.gif

Having said all that, I would make sure that your maintenance releases are up to date. If you reloaded MC as a clean install with a new operating system, the maintenance releases you had before are gone and need to be reinstalled. Also, it's probably a good idea to make sure you have the latest XP service pack as well. Lastly, make sure your IT person has given you full read / write priveleges in the MC directory since this has caused problems too. If it still won't launch properly after that I'm sure someone here can tell you what to try next.

Good luck! cheers.gifbiggrin.gif

I stopped to use Mastercam .

Only from memory and guess I suppose

1: You not installed Mastercam for your OS .

Solution :

Rename your current Mastercam folder to MyMcam9

Install mastercam and all the patches

Rename Mcam9 to OrigMcam9 AND Mymcam9 to Mcam9 .

This is a way I used many times and it works

2.

If no go delete your cfg files like mill9.cgf in

Mcam root directory

Mcam will generate standart ones and this may solve your problem

PS better rename them to oldmill.cfg and etc .

3.

If no go check out that U have the same path as before ,say before that it was d:Mcam9 and now it is c:mcam9 ?

4. You may be openning on the start custom C-hook and it cause the problem

5.

I always backup all taht I need ,I am paranoid back-upist ,but sometimes you need creative approach

Like ... If you have XP sp2 it has many flaws with build in firewall.

Try to turn it off .

6.

~~~~~~~~~~~
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error
~~~~~~~~~~

What `z teh library ?

Also ,can you start design ,lathe or wire applications ,if any .

Design is the part of any package ,try it first .

HTH

WTHH

On my way .

3.82,

I had a similar problem when switching to xp. When MC would even load, I had no menus, buttons, prompt, etc--just a blank screen that I couldn't do anything with.

While I'm by no means one of the above, I think Winnie hit the nail on the head. I wiped out my .cfg file (back it up first!, just in case) and rebooted the computer. Then fired up MC and let it write a new .cfg file. It worked--I just had to reset some of my screen config parameters.

Good luck,

scott

In such a case you can open your *.cfg file in notepad and edit all the pathes ,like path to Icons ,c-hooks and so on .

Then reload Mastercam .

I never reinstalled Mastercam ,always moved it from old computer to new one ,from one disk to other hard disk .

Always edited my cfg files afterwards and always that worked for me .

BTw,this is a good practice to read them (educational).

Anyway ,deleting or renaming of cfg works in most of cases .
