Create 2D line from 3D edge

I would like to know how or if it is possible to make a 2D line from a 3D edge. Like for example, project onto a given plane or z value. Any ideas? Thanks...

Yes that is it, I have not used a seat of MC for a year or so now but try create - curve - project.

Thanks for the welcome and the tip. Although I don't know if it's me or what but I can't seem to get it to work. When I go through the options, it ends up making a weird curve that kinda goes inside the part.

 

See what I'm trying to do is making a containment boundary. It's a 4th axis job i'm doing on a dividing head on my machine and there's a channel that goes all the way around. I need to project the edge of the channel up in each increment so I can use it as the boundary. Thanks again!!

Corey's way should work. Done it a million times. do you have the C-plane set correctly? Can you put the file on the ftp? Murlins correct too. Squash will work.

I tried the xform squash and it seemed to work but I will still add the file to the ftp to see why the other didn't work.

 

I just need to know how...

The file is under the MC9 files folder on the ftp site.

 

It is called CONEdarren21.MC9

Sometimes selecting a single edge will produce a spline that does not follow the edge.

 

 

When this happens I will create curves on All edges instead of picking a single edge and it will make good splines most of the time.

 

If that fails I will tighten up the tolerance to .0001 and set the break angle to 10 degrees.

Have done that myself sometimes , If that fails try using dynamic point creation and create points on edge of surface , then create spline from those point and it will be good
