used inserts

what i have is 643 and 543 cnmg inserts.at our company we are only able to use the long corners but what the problem is is that we have about 3,000 of each insert and i can't see just scraping them out .they generaly cost about $10 to $15 dollars new.where should i go to find out who might do a particular operation in there shop that may use the small corners?i am sure that the company i work for would get rid of them for a rock bottom deal.

I just heard from a tool salesman that scrap carbide is going for ~$7 per lb. I don't know how true it is or if that's an option for you.

the price that i heard is around $5.50 but i think that its worth a shot to maby get rid of the inserts for a dollar or two a piece for the last four corners

If they were 432 or 433 it is possible I could take them off your hands but those inserts you have are too big for my tools.

 

I would say ask your insert distributor who else is buying that size, but why would they want to lose the business...

yes you are right they want to sell the new inserts.

Buy a toolholder that can rough face with them and you will have a never ending supply. If you don't use the same tool to face and turn with it will improve insert life.

At 1 of my last jobs we bought a twin tool boring head to recycle our inserts and the expense of the tool was offset by the zero running cost of fresh edges. The owner loved it.......

We were in the same boat. Bought a tool holder to use those corners facing on the lathe. Better than sitting around unused. For those of you that get it read the article in Cutting Tool Engineering July 2005 page 10 " Tungsten prices soar higher"

that option has been explored about using the other corners for facing but that isn't realy an option for the production that we do here simply becouse of the part contour the .the lead and back angle pretty much make that impossible.

EBAY! Do a search on carbide inserts. Maybe you can find someone who can use them.
