custom tool profile backplot problem

I'm having a problem with custom tool profile when trying to mill a radiused surface on the o.d. and id.(torus shape, donuts)

the custom tool is like a bull nose endmill but with a multiple (changing) radius.

when I use a true bull nose endmill the surface profile is contacted properly when backplotting, but with the variable radius tool the profile is not.

Is this a bug in mcam or just that mcam can't truly understand custom unique or homemade tools?

we are using X sp1

is this a mcam issue, backplot issue or tool definition issue?

our reseller thinks it may be a mcam issue

any help is appreciated

thanks

You still can't use a custom profile to compensate/calculate toolpaths.

From your screenshot, Mastercam will always compensate on Mastercam tool profile (outlined) so you can try to improve this outlined contour playing with Mastercam tool parameters.

Hi Dave, thanks for the reply....

I now have this tool form, this is good for around 2/3 of the form to be cut, then, towards the end of the tool path the cutter starts to move away from the form.
