Modeling question - knurl

Can I model a diamond knurl?

 

If so, how?

I uploaded an example named Knurl.mc9 in the mc9 directory.

I would have done it in X but I'm still faster in MC9.

Just to bump on this old thread, and since the MC9 directory seems to be gone from the FTP, can anybody explain how this was done?

With out knowing knurl specs I did got this.

 

 

 

 

 

 

1- make your cylinder

 

2. make tooth/pitch chain and another chain bigger than cylinder to be knurled. Extrude Cut to desired depth.

 

 

 

3. Make chain for Revolve Cut

 

 

 

 

maybe there's a different way. I'm kind of new to Solids. I would add a flat at the bottom of the diamond next time. I would also add a chamfer at the end of the cylinder.

I guess I should pay more attention to the thread title, I can do the modeling for the looks but I was wondering if there is a way to see it like such on verify. From the threads I've found I guess the answer is no but when doing a search for knurling on the forum, this thread is the only one that mentioned a sample file.

this is kind of a pseudo-diamond-knurl, right?

 

shouldn't the modeling be done with crisscrossing helical paths?

just finished a 3d model of a hydraulic cylinder that has 2" of M46-2 thread on the end, so the helical knurl should be possible.

Easy in solidworks to do. There are tutorials on the Internet for doing them.
