chaining Question

OK here it go's

Flat closed 2D contour tool path

I want to chain this closed contour twice to get a double pass in one tool operation. I want the green arrow to loop over its self . I played around with this trying to get it to work with no luck.

Can this be done in Mastercam ????

you mean without exiting the part at all? Otherwise use multi-passes.

Ok. In multipasses- 2 passes at 0, keep tool down.

Lead in/ lead out check both enter on first depth cut only and exit on last depth cut only.

Do your toolpath, go in op manager, in geometry and add chain (rechain the same chain).

Or in the parameters, in multipass, 2 rough pass with spacing to zero.

I'm not sure this is what you wanted but I've try.

Yup, try what they said, you can do 2 rough or 2 finish passes in either multi pass or depth cuts. Either way it should do what you want.

You can chain the same contour twice, starting at different places.

Also, think about using the overlap function in leadin/out if you need an overlap in the toolpath.

Toolpaths-contour-chain-partial set wait to y

go around the chain twice

in your parameters set the over lap to whatever you want and go.

BTW

I tryed the overlap function & it works fine but the system limits the overlap to one pass. I ha ve to figure out the lenght of the chain first.

I tryed that & it wont go around for a second pass. Is there something in the chaining options I,m missing????

do you have the geometry broken any where? cause it works for me when I just start at the corner of the rectangle.

you can try it with the rectangle with all the lines unbroken??????

I did break the geometry at the midpoint of the top line and I don't use overlap. Also every solution I post is tested first before I post or I indicate otherwise. I even took the program out to a machine and checked it to see if it paused at the break between pass 1 and pass X; it did not. I will try with overlap when I get to the shop
