Because there is no guarantee that those numbers will never change and if you "forgot" you might have a BIG problem. IMHO, it's better to maintain control of your positioning in the setup/program.

 

Those numbers can be set in your machine def and you can access then when on the tool paramteres page.

 

Why hard code what is readily available and take away flexibility?

Let's say for this job you have a boring bar that sticks out 5", so you program clearance moves to Z6.0 and make a tool change. Next set up has a boring bar sticking out 6.5". Go to Z6.0, make a tool change and CRASH! Better to change in Ref Return for each operation. biggrin.gif

Besides when you "hardcode" a post. Mcam has lost it's recognition of where or what the machine is doing. For example: if you hardcode a "M09" in your post, as far as mastercam knows the coolant is still on. It does not recognize hardcoding.
