Catia translators - again

OK, time to bite the bullet and get a Cat V5 translator. Can I get some opinions on likes/dislikes of MC and moldplus (or any other available) versions of read and write Catia --->MC

We really don't need annotations, as we will still be doing most of our CAD in Cat. We need a more reliable (than I-guess)translator to bring our models into MC for machining.

if you have cat, cant you just save it as an sat or parasolid?

Don't have licensing for them, and we would rather get licenses from anyone but DS/IBM. You don't get near the bang for the buck from Dassault Systemes. My .02

No they can't. In CATIA you get STEP, and Iguess as far as useful translators. STEP is only good if you have a solid model. If it's surfaces you'll run into trouble.

 

I like both Moldplus and CNC's Translators.

We tested both here at Boeing and ended up getting the Moldplus version. Cleaner data all around. The Moldplus converter gave us noticably smaller file size vs. the Mastercam converter and would convert files successfully that Mastercam's couldn't.

oddly, I like the V9 converter better. It was quicker and something I did brought the axis into the wcs mgr in V9 and not in X. Pete R. fixed the scaling for me on the stl issue a week or so ago. The fix BTW is on the ftp for all to get when Jay gets all the damn hackers off it. It will work with X2.

So far in the past year I have tested about 30 or so files and both have brought the files across CNC has made big inprovments on there at this time.

Thanks all, for your input. We got the Moldplus quoted - along with Mulitaxis YEA!!!Just waiting approval. Gonna need the multi for our new 200" 5 axis.
