Silloutte boundry not following model

I was under the impression I could use that chook to make a contour chain around a solid model but now i've found it doesn't follow the model very accurately. Is this chook not for toolpathing or is there a setting to make it more accurate? Does anyone else use this?

as far as I know, it's supposed to be for creating quick containment boundaries for toolpathing. I don't know if there is a setting for accuracy, I don't think there is.

Settings - configuration - maximum surface deviation.

Strange, but my deviation is set to .0002 and I just found out my part is off by about .012. After looking at the chain compared to a chain I created by "curve all edges" I could see that it was way wrong. I just created another one with the chook and it was alot closer but still off in a couple areas. Learned that one the hard way.

Send it in to your reseller/CNC Software to be looked at.

That is how it works here too. My resaler tells me that is the way it is.

It is NOT intended to be used for other than a boundary curve to contain the tool. It is not generally accurate enough for contouring, etc.

Colin, I don't believe it's a bug. As Todd mentioned above, it was never intended to be used as a driving curve for a toolpath, although I do seem to remember someone saying that it would be "improved" for future releases.

Right, I agree that it is functioning "as designed".

 

Would everyone please write to [email protected] and submit an Enhancement Request to have Silhouette Boundary upgraded to follow the actual contour of the part. The reason they created it in the first place was really only for creating containment boundaries. It would be much more useful if it followed the actual 2D part contour of the outside of your solid.

 

If you take a look at my thread that I posted a link to, there is a work around I figured out to get an accurate profile. This is the type of profile that should be created by Silhouette Boundary.
