+1 to Bryan, also if you opt not to jumper (null modem) the CNC may issue an alarm that the rs232 cable is unplugged.

Just had Glen from Cimco in our shop. Drive a ground rod down by the machine and tie it in. Haas is supposed to be terrible for noise in the lines.

And here is what worked, I am not sure I understand why but it works, colors of course are on to show line up.

 

Machine - DB25

1 = Brown

2 = Red

3 = Black

4 = Green

 

Computer DB9

1 = Brown

2 = Red

3 = Black

4 = Green

 

No crossover or null modem setup.

 

I don't know why it works but I'll take it.

I've tried this with a couple different adapters and couldn't get it to work reliably. Have you had better luck?

The why is in the pin specs between 9 & 25 Pins on the PC.

 

On a 9 pin serial port 2 is tramit & 3 is recieve for a 25 pin serial port its reversed.

I've only done db25 - db25 previously so the db9 threw me a slight curve.

If I understand, all you had to do is connect pins 1,2,3 and 4 in sequence for a 9 to 25 pin conversion? All other wires are ignored???

actually, the pins connections are

 

1,2,3,7, on the DB25 end

and

 

1,2,3,5 on the DB9 end

 

I showed the 1234 to simply show there was no crossover of the lines. More confusing perhaps than it needed to be. However I will double check Monday am just to make sure I am not just having flashbacks to another life.

You know, I've run a quite a few CNCs and I still love the HAAS control. If I was buying a machine tool I would still seriously consider one. Good ROI depending on the type of work you need to do.
