Calling MC art users

I do a lot of custom engraving on the valve covers we make and I currently have to reproduce whatever graphics the customer gives me by hand.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but won't MC art load .gif's or whatever images into MC and trace the outlines for you? How well does it work? Difficulty?

I currently need to do a logo for a gentleman and reeeally don't want to create a bunch of flames by hand...

Yes, the raster to vector function lets you convert a graphic (bmp. gif, etc) to line art. There is a little learning curve to getting the best out of a graphic, but I do think its the best way to get this done in Mastercam.

I recently got the Art lite for this exact reason. The lite version gives you all the geometry tools from the full Art product, just not the "specialized" toolpaths that are fine tuned to cut the very fine mesh you end up making with some of the 3d forms you can produce.

You need to share the type of target geometry you desire. If you want 'puffed up organic surfaces', Art is the ticket. If you want to engrave a logo with fixed depth, you just need engrave (v-cutter support), or just Rast2Vec (included with Engrave) which reads in bitmaps and traces the outlines.

DISCLAIMER: Dave Thomson's opinions regarding products, product naming conventions, and product bundlings were established in the Precambrian era, could have been wrong at that point, and may likely be completely wrong now.

If you would like to talk indepth about your application give me a call at 253-265-0855. I am the Mastercam Art Product Manager. And I have a lot of expierence in this and I will give you the straight scoop.

These talks are always better if I have a copy of the graphic file you are going to work with. If you like you can send it to me at the address below.
