5x question

I have programmed 5x on Catia at previous place. (never tried 5x in MC) I am trying to create a simple practice 5x swarf cut and when doing a backplot the part flips over.

 

The part is a 10 inch diameter at the base and 12 inch diameter at the top, 3 inches high. The two circles have been divided in half so it is two arcs with a 180 degree sweep and a surface was put on that.

 

Is there something that I have overlooked.

I put the file on the ftp site in the mcx_files directory as "5x surface.mcx"

in your second operation when you pick your surfaces make sure that when prompted for the lower rail you actually pick the lower rail. if you pick the top geometry it will flip the tool over thinking that the top is the bottom. hope that makes sense

Try turning off "Simulate Rotary axis"

in your backplot options

That's it. The tool was running upside down, in effect, using the top rail as the lower rail. Like ajmer said, Mcam will prompt you for a surface and lower rail. Make sure you select the correct one.

Also in swarf you can tell the tool to drop a certain amount pass the bottom rail

Thanks guys, got to work just fine. A lot different than Catia. Used MC for a long time, just never the 5x portion.
