i save my mcx file as a stl file to use as my stock in the verify mode, but when i call out the stl file i receive a "LW has found the STL file not tob closed and water tight. An approximation will be used as stock." when i draw the surfaces they're trimmed to one another and so on but i still receive this. Any help on this would be great.

I am not sure if this is the same for verify, but we save STL files for Vericut and it is practice to save only solids to an STL file as surface models do not work properly.

Try making a solid from your surfaces maybe.

~Solids~solid from surfaces, then confirm you have a closed solid body: ~Analyze ~test surfaces and solids ~Analyze Check Solid Then Save some, select the solid and save it as an STL.

It appears that this is an on-going issue with MC that is not getting addressed by CNC Software, Inc. I see some forum posts dating back to April of 2003 and so far I have read nothing that fixes the issue. Hmmmm, a problem that has been going on for 4 1/2 years with no fix. Pretty good for a $23,000.00 software program. BTW, I have the same problem frequently now and it's nothing but a pain in my arse. All the time wasted trying to fix the problem. Scott,

Mastercam is what it is. It will never be all things to all people. We ran into this issue on models we use for verification in Vericut.

Have you tried running the STLHeal chook?

We finally ended up buying a separate software package that is specifically designed to work with STL files. It is called Magics RP. Since we got it we have had no more STL problems (that magics can't fix anyway).

BTW,

I usually have the option to use the stl "as is", but not this time and other random times.

We can make just about anything. All of our crankshafts are built-to-order and custom. Our main product lines are Chevy Small Block, Chevy Big Block, LS1, Ford, Mopar, Hemi. We also do prototype projects for the likes of Cummins, FEV, GM, Chrysler, etc. If you have any questions, just give our sales staff a call.
