SPade,

It will at the bottom of your bore, (Q)shift you machine in the designated axis, usually define in your machine parameters and set to an amount by the Q so that upon retract the tool is away from the wall so you do not get the drag line up the bore.

It looks like the best option but I'm afraid that the shift might crush the tool into the wall depending of the direction the tool is pointing.

To get the tool to shift in the correct direction, I like to load the boring head hand tight, load in the spindle, orient the spindle, turn the boring head by hand so the tool tip is say, at the 3oclock position remove the tool and tighten securely. Now if you shift .01 in the x- direction, you'll clear the wall because at the end of the cycle the tool orients. All this applies to my situation in a Haas, where I can set the shift direction in the control, your situation may be different. cheers.gif

Yes mainly used for a boring head.

As for crushing the tool into the wall, I believe that it orientates the spindle on the move,so make sure your B-Bar is positioned correctly.

I haven't used it in a long time though.

Edit: Mic6 beat me to it biggrin.gif
