Can I wrap text on to a sphere?

Yes. Yes it does Rick. But depending on the size of the sphere and the text it may not distort badly enough to worry about. At least that's the case in my experience. Limited as it is....

Also you can create-curve-project-(select surface),then select curves.This will project your text then you can make a toolpath from this.

Flatsurf and Map c-hooks would give you minimum distortion, but may not be available in V7. Mapping to a sphere is difficult, as the wide variety of world maps will show you, but a rectangle(your picture) will map nicely to a band of a sphere.

Ive even done the best of both worlds in these

stuations. Roll you geo first and then project to

the surface. this is no guarantee how it will look

when you cut it. The geo will project nicely though.
