Makino HMC all the way . We have an A61 with 218 tool crib and a A71 with 300 tool crib. When it's set up correct and off center of rotation for WCS setups are a breeze. We have part quantitys from 1 up to 100 on the average, but once the job is setup and proven it's money in the bank. We also use the Technigrips we have 10 spread throughout our 12 pallet cell system.

to all of the above. take out the variables and record changes done on the floor and your well on your way to 100%.

people-errors and the variable of the part configuration are variables beyond control. control what you can.

would guess we are 80% out of the gate programming here and improving all the time.

its a lot of work up front.

and some dont play nicely, sorry to hear rick. but we just gotta do what we can.

I worked in a shop that had a clipboard with a pad of paper hanging on the machine. This was for setup guys to make notes to give to the programmers. If no changes were necessary, then a "No Changes Necessary" not was left in the programmer's in-box. Communication is key.

James every Job I send to the floor has a note page. The operators can write whatever they want in this controlled document. They can not write on the Tool list, Set-up sheet or Copy of the 1st page of the program. Anything needing to be written goes on the notes page. Then the Shop foreman makes a decision if it needs to be given to me for updating or if it is ok as is. We have this written in our producers and as long as we floor what we have written our auditors are happy and our guys on the floor are happy.

Sorry to say, but, what a waste. It's not quite "why bother" but it sure is close.

I'm working on a turn-key right now and ONE PART has 70 tools abd it could have easily had 75 or so if we would have put roughing tools in.
