Solidworks 2008 file

Hi,

 

I am trying to view a solidworks 2008 file and keep getting this error.

 

"Cannot find parasolid data in solidworks file"

 

Any ideas?

 

I am using X2 MR2 SP1.

Also you might try going into your X icon in the control panel.

 

using the control panel window navigate to

 

C:McamX2-MR2commonsworksdata

 

unregister the SwDocumentMgr.dll

and then reregister the same file

usually that means the solidworks file is too new for MC

 

i get that all the time when our designer does beta

In this case no.

 

X2 MR2 SP1 DOES open SW2008 files.

How do you unregister and then register? I have that Dll.

Is the SW file off of a 64 bit machine?

 

I don't "KNOW" that this would cause a problem, I'm just kind of thinking out loud

I need to machine from the model.

 

I am not sure if it was 32 or 64 bit Machine.

 

I know it was an Educational License.

 

The student gave me a zip file containing 7 files.

 

I guess I could download a trial version of Rhino and open them and save them as a stp file?

Did you try unregistering and then re-registering the .dll from the command line? I'm using SW2008, SP1.1 with no issues.

I am using 3.1 with no issues either, I am leaning towards it being output from the educational version of Solidworks as being the issue.

i just tried 64bit and cannot open, get the same error.but i can open it in 32 sw,tried to save as a new file and it still will not open in MC

Save it to the FTP and I can covert it to a Parasolid XT version 10. Should get ya going.

Aha!

 

SolidWorks dropped support of Win2000 with SW2007. That means that the DLLs that they provide us with in order to read their files do not support Win2000.

 

You'll have to request it in Parasolid format instead, or ask one of the forum members to open the SLDPRT on their non-Win2000 systems (in either SW or in MCam) and then save it as .X_T and send it to you.

I downloaded Rhino and converted the to stp files with no problems.

 

I forgot my laptop at home , it has XP on it.

The problem I have had with SW2008 is the file was saved as a *.sldasm . When I get a file like this I resave the file as a *.sldprt and the problem goes away. But if it a windows 2000 issue that is a different problem.
