How do you guys handle thread rolling inside of Mastercam and not have it wipe out your parts in backplot or verify?? Anything you define wants to cut. I just told it was a tap and used a point toolpath with the correct speed and feed.

The part where I do not belong could someone put this an enhancement request in the important people place.

Thanks.

Thank Tyler, Also some of us have very strange senses of humor. As you can see we all are taking in good spirits loosen up a little. wink.gifwink.gifwink.gif

But that was a serious question Does anyone program thread rolling inside of Mastercam?? Do you see where you could describe a tool that would not wipe out the part. The only thing I could think of is make a thread detail to the specific od, but then when it came back out no threads, but at least it would not wipe out the whole shaft like anything else would. I thought this up as I typed this so will try it and let you know.

dunno... Tyler... I've tried to add someting twice now... headscratch.gif I can get in, I just have not been able to post. I'll try again.

Threadrolling... pretty much like tapping only you form the thread as opposed to cutting it.

WHen you tap does it show threads? I always threadmill (and have most of them drawn up so I always see threads with no wipeout.

I havnt proven this in a program , but if you create a custom tool with the datum vee point of the tool at your root diameter. When the operation is verified even though it is set at X0 the tool point will be at root dia.Somehow the post would have to know it was a rolled thread so it all takes place at X0.
