Guhring Coolant Thru Drills

Does anyone here use these or have used them in the past?

I've got a 05512 carbide coolant thru drill and the Speed/Feed PDF says in tool steels to run it 4074 RPM @ 81 IPM.....that seems WAY FAST to me.

The machine I'm going to run it in has coolant thru spindle and I'm drilling 10xD which is 3.75 deep with a 9.52mm (3/8") drill in H-13.

Anybody have any recomendations on peck depth or should it peck at all?

Thanx

Youd be surprised at what these drills can do.

My experience with them has been running at

the reccommeneded speeds and feeds.

They pretty much nail it every time.

Great tools.

Just let it do its thang biggrin.gif

I would guess 3X dia peck, they as a rule dont

like to peck but 10X is pushin it.

PEACE biggrin.gif

i would start with a shorter drill maybe 3-5x dia and then use the 10x dia length drill. DO NOT use peck drill they work better if it is a straight drill cycle. i agree with Hardmill use the recommended speeds and feeds if not comfortable with it phone your tool supplier and have the rep come in that way if you break it using their recommended s/f you can get another for no cost!

Titex and Guhring are about on par quality-wise and yes... rigid setup, little to no runout on the tool and you will be amazed. 20k RPM and 192 IPM on a 1/4" Drill 10x Diameter deep in 7000 Series aluminum - NO PECK! Oh, and the holes had a reamed finish.

Scared the $#!+ outta me the first time.
