Creating Tplanes for hole drilling

I've got a 5 axis part with some holes to drill which are all normal to the surface at different points, so I'll need Tplanes for all of these. Is there a way to create a plane by selecting the axis of a hole? If so, how can I create an axis in the hole?

BTW, I'm using X3 now.

Planes/normal will create the tool planes you need. be careful.. you will usually get a couple of options when you select the line..

 

If you are just using drill toolpaths you can also use 5Xdrill and use the C/L axis as the drive curve..

Use Drill 5ax, and set to be normal to surface.

That way you can pick all points as single operation.

I've got it programmed with Drill 5ax, and it will work fine. I like that alot better than creating individual t-planes, operations, etc.

I'm not sure if this is the formal way to do it, but I used "Create Surface from Solid", and created surfaces out of the cylinder of each hole. I then un-trimmed these cylindrical surfaces, and created edge curves at the top and bottom, ie. arcs. I then created lines from center to center of these arcs.

Yes, that is the formal way i use to do.

You can eliminate a few steps with "creat constant parameter curve", toggel direction to creat arcs in the solid hole. The 5 axis hole sounds eiser.

With Hole axis you can make this process much faster. We can use solids or surfaces to create the Point and the Line. You can set the line above or below the point. The point come from the center of the cylinder, it can be an offset with a set amount. You also have the Circle option where you create a circle for the Hole you are using as well.

 

On the Mastercam Programming side I use this tool all the time. On the Verisurf side of things we use this tool a lot as well.
