Burnish tool

Hi everybody

I never did the burnish operation and if any body can help me in burnish operation.

I have to burnish the bore and tool I have from Cogsdill tool prod. It is INternal Roll-a-finish tool. I am using the cnc mill and the material is Al.,Bore is 1.437 dia. My first question, Can I give rpm to burnish tool or always the part to rotate and tool is to be stationary. If tool can be rotated, How much rpm and feed I should give to the tool to get finish of 16 in Al.

My second question, Should I provide M00 before Burnish operation to clean the bore first.

Third question, Does it need the coolant or oil.

Any help will be appreciated.

Yes, clean the bore before you run the burnish tool and flood coolant.

We use our Oil Coolant machine to do it. We try to machine a 32 or better finish and leave .0004 to .0008 to burnish. I understand you can use water based coolant, I have always used oil for doing it.

I always used oil only as well Ron. It was 416SS and we just finished the parts less the burnish. 1 tool ran 1000 parts before changing rollers.

I use water based coolant, but really flood it.

Keep tool free of any chips or swarf.
