410SS compared to 416SS

I am wondering if I can substitute 410SS with 416SS. I have a part that calls for 410SS. My local SS vendor can only get 416SS in the diameter that I need. I was reading in the machinery's handbook that 410 is sometimes substituted with 416SS. Does this sound right to you guys.

We substitute 403 for 410, but I don't know about 416.

How much trouble is 403 to machine?

I guerss it depends on why the customer is wanting to use 410 in the first place. Some of the properties vary and 416 may not work for them.

It says 416 is a free machining grade of 410

Not as tough as 410.

from what one of my cusctomer told me 410ss is more heat resistant than 416ss. don't know for sure that was what he told me. he made exhaust headers for hi-perf cars and used only 410ss

410/403 machines easily, one of the easiest machining stainless we use.
