Regen files

Normaly Mastercam cleans out the regen files

when it closes. If you have been crashing,

the regen files could be the ones left behind by the crash. You might want to try cleaning out your Temp folder while Mastercam is closed.

There are 4 options releated to REGEN files

on the Toolpaths page.

Delete files on Exit

Keep large than ??

Keep not older than ??

Keep that took more than ?? minutes to generate

Concidering the type of work you do and the setting of these four options, a bunch of saved

regen files could be perfectly normal.

As always when having frequent crashes, the first

thing to do is reload your machine definition.

If you start your projects with a template file

you could be propagating a corrupt machine def issue from project to project.

As a precaution, due to X3's instability:

I reload my machine defs before I start creating

paths and before I post code. I use one machine def

only and only have that one loaded in my install

(and the control file).

I started using X3 when the MU1 came out and

regen files 'only' started appearing a week ago???

Uh....w smile.gif hen is X4 MU1 coming out? wink.gif

How are those four options set on the Toolpath page??

As stated earlier, the files are deleted when

you exit. If your session crashed the regen folder won't get cleaned out properly.

It would be interesting to open the regen folder on a seperate screen and watch what's happening in there as your worked through a project.

What is the purpose of the Regen files?  Why doesn't CNC Software just automatically delete them and if they are no longer needed, why even have an option to save/delete them?

They are helper files...there is a setting in your config that can determine how you want them dealt with....but on files with big regen times, they help minimize the crunchtime if the toolpath needs to be regenerated by retaining the toolpath information...

config >> Toolpaths is where you'll find the settings

I guess this is why some toolpath regenerations are faster when small changes are made.

Yes... and this is one reason why fast solid state hard drives improve regen times on big surfacing toolpaths.

The fast hard drives can read and write these regen files more quickly, so the regen time are lower
