new stuff. cant think of the term for it. But its laced with 316 SS. anyone cut it? the certs say average SS sfm but heavier feeds. I'll be using ball type cutters as its an airfoil. I'll add the cert # tommorow

I don't know if you can work it out, but I prefer to use 4-axis lead/lag with a bullnose with inserts. The tip radius is small, but the workpiece sees a large radius.

Titanium + 316ss = many beers.

cutting titanium it's like butter compare to hastelloy. inconnel 625 or A-286

 

 

i always get very good result with niagara cutters , these end mill cut forever in hard material

 

take the stabilizer series they are awesome

 

you can alst tried ceratizit insert cutter CTP5240

but i never cut the TI-5553 but a lot of grade 5-7-12

If you see a quote with 5553...burn it and toss it before boss see's it. nasty stuff

i second the lead lag comment, tilt a copy mill cutter (radius inserts)

well, It seems to act more like Titanium than SS. running about 500 sfm with a button type cutter. abrasive for sure, but making chips

6-2-4-2 Gravy....cuts like butter on a warm day. I used a Sanvick 2.0" plung mill in this material for 10" deep pockets and it worked sweet. I also plunged about about 30% of the part. Just a suggestion if you run into some deep pockets with small corners.

funny you sat that. After lots of tests, we wound up plunge milling. Problem is, next operations go to a 4 axis and then to a 5 axis. Airfoils from billet. It looks like the worste potato chip you ever pulled out of the bag. And about as thin

No, one of my customers are going to do some test in 5553 sometime next week. They will also be doing some test in some other material that has similar properties but harder. I have cut alot of hard metals, but from what I understand 5553 is not fun.

 

I am working all weekend, but took time off from one of my cutomers and got rid of another....so I should have some time soon....down to 60-70 hr weeks Ya!
