Surface Rough Contour Forging

I have the finished part nested inside forging model. Need to rough part using a z-level (water line?) style approach. I have been trying surface finish contour toolpath, but tool will feed down unto forging at places. Should I be using another style toolpath in X4 that would recognize forging and feed down away from it?

Surface rgh contour and finish contour are really one and the same. If there's a vertical wall at the top of the part, contour tends to start the cut at tangency to the rad of the tool relative to the first slope or radius. The first cut is deep. If a rad or shallow angle starts at the top, contour works fine. I would try surface rgh pocket 1st as step downs are constant with that path and more predictable. No pocket is actually required, just a boundry to control the tool path.
