Hi Folks, Still using MC8 here. Just upgraded a PC with windows XP. Reinstalled Mastercam 8.1 and I'm not able to use Surface-Finish-Contour. I keep getting a message that says "An unsupported operation was attempted". Other surface operations seem to work fine. Any thoughts besides the obvious: Fork out the coin for X4??

Just guessing here, but I would think that if there was a problem with running V8 on XP, the entire program wouldn't run. A single toolpath type not working doesn't sound like it's an XP/V8 problem to me.

Thanks Thad. I'm thinking you're right. Suppose I'll reload everything and try it again. If there is a known problem I figured someone here would know about it.

 

I'm no longer a business owner, and X4 just isn't in the budget at the moment.

That's probably your best alternative.

It sounds like something may have become corrupt during installation.

 

Like Thad said, it's very odd that it's only one toolpath that isn't working properly.

 

That tends to makes me think it's some kind of installation issue. Sometimes these things just hiccup when software is being installed.

I don't know if it will help, but you could try running the EXE file in "compatibility mode" to an older version back to say....Win95. See if that helps any.

This could also be caused by antivirus software

blocking parts of the install...

or preventing things from launching durning normal operations.

I had a similar problem back in V6 ... It was a bad MC disk, got a new disk and did a repair/new install (can't remember which) and all worked fine.

Thanks guys. I put the disk back in and hit the repair button. Works great again.
