FYI: CNN is doing a story on CNC Machining at Greenville Technical College here in SC in the near future. They're are filming tonight and there may be a familiar face there!

Good Luck buddy. I think I plugged mcam so much they edited me out. Always good to have attention on bringing in young people and developing them into better programmers/machinist for the area to attract industry and further all of our causes across the nation. Lets keep these jobs at home.

They were at the school until 10:00pm last night!

 

They interviewed me for over an hour, got shots of a lecture, shots of the students and shots of us running the machines. Luckily enough we were running an impeller on the 5 axis mill so we had something cool to show.

I remember when these guys were MC Tool back in 1997 - they've come a long way -

Ø80ft.. 11 pieces 35K pounds each

.001 max mismatch edge to edge for all

11 pieces.

Back in the day they built 10 pieces, assembled them, measured the last gap and built to fit.

We just built all 11 pieces and put them together..

Mastercam Apprentice Program

 

All in all a pretty good article. Brant is one of my best students and he'll do very well as a programmer.

 

Atleast we got to machine something cool even if it was made of machinable wax!
