Need a file converted

I uploded a file (Jeff's Solidworks Cant open)

to the Drawing directory. It is too new for me to open Could someone convert it backwards to an earlier version of Solidworks so I could use it.

Here is the Cad file for the above Solidworks file. (Jeff's Cad File) Located in the drawings directory. Does the Solidworks file look correct?

I put an MCX file in the X3_Files folder on the FTP site

Its named

JEFF'S_SOLIDWORKS_CAN'T_OPEN_X3.MCX

and should work fine

I can't find anything wrong with it. Toolpaths just fine here. I used the .x_b file.

I did the same earlier today and I was also able to add toolpaths to Jeff's file. (Jeff and I emailed back and forth for a while)

 

He must have something stange going on his end.

What toothpath did you use? When I try to toothpath, I cannot "select drive surface" when I click on the model you sent. What do you think is wrong?

It's a SOLID, is your solid selection turned on? Import as surfaces perhaps under import settings?

Whe I click on drive surface in the toothpath, it says there are "0" drive surfaces in the project.

How do I learn to draw solids in mastercam? Do I need a class or book for this? Can I take a 2D Cad drawing and draw it myself?

Jeff I only have mill level one. I made contour tool paths using the solid. I cant help you with surfacing.

If you haven't created surfaces from the solid, you need to use the solid selection buttons

when creating toolpaths

Jeff - I'm thinking this is what you're looking for. The icon circled enables solids selection. This is why you can't select any solid features.

 

Until you click on this you will only be able to select surfaces.

 

As for learning how to draw and work with solids...I'd say taking some classes won't hurt.

Thanks Rob and gcode. I tried and did both of those things. I first activated the solids to toothpath them, and that worked. Then changed all the solids to surfaces and toothpathed also, and that worked too.

Jeff, if you prefer to work with surfaces, you can change the import setting when you open the parasolid file. When you go to "file>open" and change the file type to parasolid, the little Options button will activate. Click that button, and it will give you import options.
