Hey guys great forum. Lots of good info. I really need some help. I am trying to learn Lathe 9 SPI.

Is there anywhere in Ventura County that i can go to learn this(affortable)? Is there any good books(tutorials, examples, demo cd's)? The company i work for has there own cd's but i would like to load this at home so i can at least learn. I have already tried to get some knowledge from the poeple here at work but they all think i want to steal there job (rather get the knowledge and move on). I have a solid backround in with cad softwares. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

No one from CNC can list or talk about my training cd's for fear of getting their balls handed to them by Greg. They were very helpful in the past (and I appreciate it). But no one wants to get yelled at and I dont blame them. No matter how good these Training cd's are, it's not worth the verbal abuse they would have to endure.

Thanks for the referal Steve.

Wow Mike I can't believe he has that much power. I do know he likes to go for the balls though.

I heard he was Moving to Arizona to start a Corvette farm when he retires(soon they hope). Maybe CNC won't be so scared then. In the best interest of ALL of their(CNC) customers and educators they should not hold back on advertising GOOD TRAINING MATERIAL.The more complex Mastercam gets the harder it is to find good training material. Anybody can write a book or try to produce a training cd but can you learn from it is the question. I know your material is top quality. Sorry to hear that. With that I may have to go protect my mid section he still hasn't got mine and won't ever.

Might sound silly, but working through the mastercam lathe v9 tut, all the parts for the exersizes are already drawn, and also the chuck. Q. Do you guys draw the part in mastercam, or do you do it in something like autocad?? We have done an introduction to Autocad, and the drawing interface seems much stronger and friendlier in autocad than mastercam. I understand that Mastercam is mainly a CAM package, but the user interface seems like someting from the 80's. Looking at Mike's coments and the general feeling about Greg (whoever he might be), one wonders if it's safe utter coments like these??

Pieter,

I think you'll find your general questions much more effiecently answered in the main forum. Many users don't even look in this forum.

BTW, many of us do both. Design in something else as well as work within MasterCam. Also the interface in X has very much been updated into a windows interface.

this sounds outragous to me. I used autocad long ago and thought it was very easy to use. but using mcam for designing always seemed to take so many less keystrokes. in fact I would say from my experience , I could draw 2 or 3 times faster than with acad.

Billy,

I think drawing ANY "part" from a print can be accomplished faster or as fast in Mastercam by the right person as in any other CAD package.

While I know that CNC Software tends to stress the CAM aspect of our software our CAD capabilities have been my personal choice for over 15 years!!

I just started using Mastercam X and I'm having a problem merging files. The files merge, but the color of the surfaces always changes to red, and I'm not able to change them after it's merged. If I analyze the surface, it says it's the right color, but it's not. It's like the color won't clear, but that button doesn't work either. I'm sure it's something easy I'm missing. Any ideas??? Thanks!

If you open a second instance of Mastercam X, go into the one with the geometry you want to copy, pick all the geometry you wish to copy, after you have it all picked, click on edit up at the top and then select copy. Go into the new window into which you wish to copy the geometry. Click on edit at the top and click paste, you will then have some options to choose from in the ribbon bar. If everything is OK, click the OK button and the geometry will copy into the new window.

Welcome to the Forum

In the future if you ask your questions in the main forum many more people will see your request.
