5-axis programming

I have been using MasterCam for years but until recently I haven't had to do any 5-axis programming. Can anyone tell me if they know of any good information on the web or any good books that I can purchase to get my feet wet before I crash one our new very expensive machines. I would like to start with the basics.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Colin,

Look for a book by Karlo Apro, he works for CNC Software and is coming out with an awesome book on 5 axis machining and using Mastercam.

Thanks for the heads up on this! Greatly appreciated.

The 'Handbook' series by Charles Davis is also good.

The "Handbook" series makes a good start but needs a lot of work. I've made quite a few suggestions on how Volume 1 can be improved.

Just got a new book from In House Solutions written by Peter Smid. Smid's book is limited to 2 1/2 axis mill but by far this is the best book I've read on Mastercam so far. Not finished with it yet. About 1/2 way through.

The problem with 4 and 5 axis books in my opinion, is that there are so many varieties of machines out there, and they all require slightly different techniques.

The other trouble is 4 and 5 axis post processors being configured properly. This is where Karlo's book helps quite a bit. It shows different machine configurations (table-table, table-head, head-head) and how to properly set them up and do a real alignment check on the machine (with pretty good pictures!).

I've only seen an advanced copy of the book in PDF format, but it looks very promising...
