ATI video cards

People mention that ATI video cards are known to have problems. Specifically, what are these problems? I'm not having any specific problems, just wondering.

Mostly OpenGL problems I think and Bad drivers.

Bad choice even as a game card for games like Unreal Tournament 2003 or Quake3.

I prefere NVIDIA Geforse4(not MX) line of cards.

At home I use Geforse 2 mx400 32 Mb.

It is rather old but still good for most of things.

Never a problem with anything .

Thanks I was curious if it was a major consideration when building a computer.

We have ATI Rage series cards and they do NOT work with Mastercam. My system leaves dialog boxes on the screen when they're not "really" there; I get ghost images of cutting tools when backplotting, etc.

I found that ATI cards are good only for MPEGed videos .They are really good in this .

Even ATI RAGE 8MB rocks!

I use an ATI Fire GL 8800 and I have no problems in MasterCAM, SolidWorks or AutoCAD/Mech. Desktop

ATI FireGL boards are completly different animals from the consumer-orented RAGE or RADON series boards. The FireGL stuff generally works.

So would this cause issues or problems in creating complex surfaces and splines or is this something different altogether?

Seems like the ATI cards are not fairing too well with MCAM. Unfortunately I have some machines that have the ATI Radeon 9700 PRO w/TV out.

 

MCAM has difficulty even drawing a line that I can see. Tech support says it is tied into the OpenGL support in the card & suggested shutting off openGL support in MCAM. When I did this I couldn't see the line I drew at all.

 

The control panels for this card appear to allow for a lot of flexibility regarding openGL. Has anyone out there had any luck with settings for this card? I am using V9SP1.
