I believe you can get a NEW Mori Seiki CL Series lathe in your price range.

I'd BUY a USED Mori before you could GIVE me a NEW Cincinati.

I don't like the Hawk because it's a Cincinati and their quality from my experience is severely lacking. Mori Seiki on the other hand is the standard that all other lathes are measured by. Ever wonder why so many machine tool builders try to make their machines look like Mori's? That's why.

Things I like about Mori;

Quality.

Precision.

Accuracy.

Repeatability.

Service.

Reliability.

Rigidity.

All of this year after year after year.

I spent 12 years in an aerospace shop with 5 Mori seiki lathes. Ran them 5 and 6 days a week. Put in way oil and pulled out chips. 12 years, 5 machines, one service call for a burned out board.

Accurate all day long to .000x (tenth's). Can't beat a Mori Seiki.

We have a Mori Seiki SL-35 that we bought in 1989 and that puppy is a workhorse!

We've crashed it sooo many times and it's still one of the best lathes that we have.

Also we have an Okuma Cadet that we got in 1994,I love the Okuma controls, they're very user friendly and ultra-versatile.

If I had my way,I'd have an Okuma control on every machine out on the floor.

On my former place of work we had only Okumas,

lathes amd mill.

They worked like charm in such bad conditions -

no conditioning , hot and dusty air - accurate and never any fault .

I worked on mill Okuma5000v if I remember right.

I loved this MACHINE .

It is like to drive mercedes.

I in love with Okumas !

From the other hand Mori is also good.

I worked on a lot of old Mories with Fanuc 6,10 and 11.

They where 20 years old but worked good and accurate.

But the Okuma is not only the Machine.

Their control rocks all over others.

Well Cincinaty is another story.

They are simply from the other football league.

The same is my Deckel- Maho dmc 63v from Deckel.

Two great names bought by Guildermeister but in reality a piece of @#$%.

You can use it and will do good parts but faults all the time ,numerous bugs in control and nerves.

Far better to buy some good Japan machine tool then German or American !(sorry for possible offence ).

I'm also with you there! We have 4 LNC8 Cadets, 4 L370 Captains and 1 LT15M and they are all dependable, workhorse machines with no maintenance issues at all.

We also have 2 (Old) Mori lathes that are super dependable as well

Can't go wrong either way, in my opinion. Nakamura-Tome is pretty nice too for another option.
