O\T What do you use your palm for?

Is this invention just another toy or is it a nesscessary tool to have? What are some of the great things to use it for. I'm thinking of purcahsing one for personal use. Are there any applications for a modern day shop?

Our Vertical Mill Supervisor uses his for all the jobs running in his dept. instead of the old notepad and pen for tracking progress,qty,ops completed.

Just put an implant in each one,,, and call it a day.

 

I know two guys that have a simple cad (Tucad) in their palm .They use it to to record stock sizes or hole locations while they are on the floor or at a vendor,s place.

i use a compaq ipaq running pocket pc

i use it for my contacts, email, project notes.

a little black book is just about the same thing

The spreadsheet (Excel to go) app is good for tracking cycle times and estimating completion dates.

I have a Handspring phone that is a phone, palm pilot, email, and web (get news, etc) via Sprint PCS (no, I own no stock in this company).

 

Gotta tell ya, It's nice when you're traveling to be able to pull up anyone's phone number, voice dial, and check your email -it's a much more seamless connection with your office and customers if you are on the road.

I have a handspring visor deluxe, that is great for contact info, etc. Until it crashes....

 

Of course I loaded it with everypiece of cool shareware I could find, so that might have had something to do with it.

I have a Sony Clie that uses the Palm OS. I found Machinist Toolbox PDA on the web as shareware and bought it.

It has calculators for speeds and feeds for different matls (all editable), bolt circle, triangle, cusp/stepover, true psn and sine plate calculators, among others, as well as conversions, polar to rect, chord data etc, etc

I use it when I'm in the shop or when I don't want to draw something up and analyze it in MasterCam.

With the palm software you can also schedule all your meetings, keep data on contacts and sync it with your PC.

I find it a useful tool.

Machinist Toolbox PDA is found at: www.machinist-toolbox.com It is available as shareware as I said, but the temp licence didn't last as long as they said.
